Description

C. A. BAILEY.
TOY PISTOL.
APPLICATION FILED FEB.26,1919.

ATTORNEY.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, CHARLES A. BAILEY La citizenof the United States, residing in Cromwell, in the county of Middlesexand I State"of'Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Toy Pistol, of which the following is a specification.
",My-inventionrelates to the classof toy pistols designed-for exploding paper caps, and an object of my invention, among others, is to provide a device of this class with sinitaining such 'caps disposed lengthwise thereon. x v 7 One form of device embodying my invention and :in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as accompanying drawings, in which Figure l isa view in side elevation of a toy pistol embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same. Fig.3 is a view looking at the front end .of said pistol.
Fig. 4: is a. View in side elevation of a portion of my improved pistol illustrating me- .ohanical means for feeding the tape. In the accompanying drawings the nu- 'meral 5 indicates the frame of my improved toy pistol, said frame having a tape cham- Y her 6, preferably open on one side, a barrel 7 extension 7 and a handle 8. An anvil 9 is located at the top of the frame and a hammerlO, pivotally mounted in the frame, and V of any desired construction, and operated in any desired manner, is adapted to strike said anvil under the force of a spring connected fiwith the hammer in a manner to throw it forward against the anvil.
A guide 11, preferably of curved form, 5 comprises one wall of the chamber 6, said guide being secured at one end to a stud l2 projecting from the frame, the opposite end f said guide being pressed into contact with theface of the anvil. This guide may be constructed of spring metal to effect this (purpose A tape supporting stud 13 pro- ,jects laterally from the frame at the front end of the chamber 6 and it has a retaining finger 14' projecting at an angle to the main v a part of the pin as an aid in retaining a roll ofztape'composed of the paper caps in place. i In the operation of the pistol the finger of the'operator is; placed on that part of the Ytape resting on'the guide 11 and is moved along the curved part of the guide to move 'Tnn STATES PATENT onnio CHARLES A. caps in the tape. V
In 'Fig. 4 of the drawings means are shown for mechanically feeding the tape along the guide, in the mechanism shown a slide 15 is mounted for reciprocating movement on the frame, this slide having a retainingfinger 16 projecting through a slot 17 in the frame to guide it in its movements, a hammer 18 projecting from the upper end of the slide inposition' to strike the anvil 9 whenthe slide is forced forward as by a spring 19.
A feed finger 20 projects from the slide in position to engage the paper tape 21 and -move it along the guide 22 when the slide is shoulder 26 to receive a cooking shoulder 27 formed at the lower front edge of the slide. In the operation of this part of the device the slide is moved backwardly by pressure upon the trigger 28 until the edge 27 engages the shoulder 26 to hold the slide in its rearward position. In this rearward movement the finger 20 engaging the tape presses the spring 22-away from the anvil and moves the tape with the next cap thereon into position to be fired.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have described the rinciples of my invention, together with the device which I now consider to rep-resent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative, and that the invention may be carried out by other means.
