CIGAR-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 1, 1919.
Application filed May 22, 1918. Serial No.236,002.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPIIRAM N. Rrr'resn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have in vented a new and useful CiganI-Iolder, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of the present invention is a cigar holder in. which the end of a cigar may be secured while being smoked.
The main object of the invention isthe provision of means for gripping the ends of cigars of different shapes.
Another-object of the invention is the provision of a cigar holder which will not leak air between the holder and the cigar.
The invention also contemplates the provision of a cigar holder with a solid mouth piece and cigar engaging means conformable to the shape of a cigar.
Anotherobject of the invention is the provision of a holder having the advantages'of' the present soft rubber holder but ZLVOMlIHg the disagreeable taste due to the soft rubber.
The invention also contemplates generally improving the constructlon and enhancing the utility of cigar holders.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In carrying out the invention there is provided a mouth piece 1, formed of any su1t able solid, non-yielding substance, and through whlch the usual air ductis formed. An exterlorly threaded nlpple 2 1s formed ofthe cigar engaglng portion 3.
Patent, is
on the forward end of the mouth piece 1, and this nipple is threaded into the rear end The cigar engaging portion 3 is apertured to receive the end of a cigar and to permit the passage therethrough of the smoke, and is preferably formed of resilient material, such as rubber, which will conform to various sizes and shapes of cigars and which will tightly grip the cigar. The portion 3 of the holder is preferably formed with an annular enlarged portion, or reinforcing band 4, which tends to strengthen the cigar engaging portion at the point of connection with the mouth piece. The forard end of the cigar engaging portion 3 is preferably formed with an annular beading 5 which adds to the strength of the end and assures a firm grip of the portion about the cigar.
To protect the cigar engaging portion 3 from injury, due to the heat from the ignited cigar when the cigar has burned to the end, the portion of. the holder is lined with strips of heat insulating material 6, which strips are preferably arranged circumferentially of the portion 3, of which each strip extends longitudinally. Each strip is secured along one longitudinal edge to the inner wall of the portion 3, while its other edge overlaps the adjoining secured edge of the next strip. This will allow the portion 3 to expand and contract to accommodate larger or smaller cigars.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters A cigar holder including a non-yielding mouth piece, a reslhent cigar holding ele- 1nent,.str1ps of heat lnsulatlng material arranged within and circumferentially of the cigar holding element, each strip being secured to the reslllent cigar holding element,
along one longitudinal edge thereof, the opposits edge of each strlp overlappmg the secured edge of the adjacent str p.
In testnnony that I clalm the foregomg as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
