iMPROVEMENT IN MILK-CANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,752, dated August 20, 1872.
SPECIFICATION. To whom "it may concern:
Be it known thatI, J OHNP. SAUER, of Wheaton, in the county of Du Page and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Cans, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure 1 representsa top view of a milkcan provided with my improvements, and Fig. 2 a vertical section of the same in the plane of the line m a: of Fig. 1.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and convenient means of attaching the cover securely to the can, and to furnish the cover with a tag-holder; and to that end it consists in the employment of springs upon the can and cover, in the manner hereafter described.
Inthe drawing, A represents the milk-can, and B the cover. 0 is a slot in that part of the milk-can which receives the co er, and G is a corresponding slot in the cover. D is a sprin one end of which is attached to the can, a the free end of which is bent so as to enter the slot 0 and prevent the cover from being turned when the spring rests in its slot. The free end of the spring D is also provided with a thumb-piece, so that it may be conveniently drawn from the slot. E is a loop to prevent the spring D from being drawn too far from the can. When the slots 0 and C are opposite each other the spring D enters them and locks the cover to the can. F is a spring on the cover, and compressing a tag, G. H is a hook, in which the free end of the spring F rests. I is a thumb-piece on spring F.
