IMPROVEMENT IN PULL-BELLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,742, dated August 20, 1872.
SPECIFICATION. To'all whom it may concern:
Be it'known that I, WILLIAM M. PRESTON, of Roxbury, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pull-Bell; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a pull-bell in such a manner as to admit of the use of a pull in any direction from the center of the tumbler or cylinder, thereby in a great many cases dispensing with the use of angles and cranks.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the entire bell, and Fig. 2 is a perspective of the tumbler from the inner side.
A represents the bell-plate, of any desired form and size. B is the bell; and U the tumbler, to which latter the hammer D is attached. This hammer may be cast with the tumbler or attached to it in any other desired manner, so as to turn with the same. E is the spring which throws the tumbler and hammer back forations, according to the location of the bell,
thus allowing the bell to be pulled in any direction desired.
This bell may be used on a basement and second floor with an alarm attachment at either door, and dispense with the use of any angles.
In place of the perforations in the tumbler or cylinder 0 pins may be inserted, or various other devices used with the same to answer the same purpose.
Having thus fully described my invention,

A pull-bell having its tumbler or cylinder furnished with perforations or their equivalents to admit of a pull in any direction from the center of said tumbler or cylinder, substantially as herein set forth.
