BARN-DOOR LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ R. HENRIGH- SEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rosenberg, in the county of Fort Bend and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barn-Door Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in door or gate locks and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character, whereby a door or gate may be locked permanently or simply locked when desired to obviate accidental opening of the door or gate when not locked.
Another object of this invention is to provide a hasp having a locking element adapted to secure or permanently lock the hasp to a keeper when inserted therein.
A further object of this invention is the provision of means for locking the locking element against movement when once turned into engagement with the keeper.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a lock of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and eflicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the descrip-.
tion proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates an ordinary door associated with a door jamb 2, to which my invention is applied. A keeper 3 consisting of a pair of relatively spaced blocks 4: are secured to the door jamb 2 in spaced relation to each other and one of the blocks 4 has a recess or socket 5 opening outwardly through the inner face thereof.
1 A hasp 6 is secured to the door by suitable fasteners 7 and has a pair of bifurcated arms 8 to which is pivoted a locking block 10 that is adapted to be swung between the spaced blocks 4 constituting the keeper 3.
The locking block 10 has pivoted therein a locking element 11 which extends outwardly through one edge thereof and is adapted to be turned into the slot or recess 5 of one of the blocks 4 when the block 10 has been swung between said blocks. The lock 11 is mounted upon a studlQ sothat the same may swing in the arc of a circle and through a slot 13 in the block 10. The normal position of the locking element 11 is disposed forwardly in the slot 13 so as to disengage the keeper 3. The block 10 has formed therein a slot or recess 14 in which is positioned a locking dog 15. The locking dog 15 is pivoted to the block as illustrated at 16 and has secured to its pivoted end a spring 17 that engages the block for urging the locking dog 17 upwardly in engagement with the locking element- 11 when swung into a locked position or in engagement with the keeper 3. An actuating member 18 is pivoted within the slot 14 and overlies the free end of the dog 15 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. A closure plate 19 is secured to the block and closes the slot 14 and has therein a pair of spaced openings 20 and 21. The opening 21 is positioned directly over the actuating member 18 so that upon inserting an actuating pin 22, the actuating member 18 will be moved downwardly upon its pivot disengaging the dog 15 from the locking element 11.
A suitable key 23 is inserted within the key hole 20 and in engagement with the stud 12 whereby upon rotating the stud 12 the locking element 11 will be disengaged from the keeper 3. WVhen the locking element 11" has been moved to disengage the keeper, the block 10 may then be'swung upon its pivot to free the dog from the keeper. A suit able guard plate 25 is positioned within'the closure plate 19 and has formed in one end" an opening 11rwhichis posltioned a'collar 26 that extends downwardly within the opening 21, while the opposite end of the guard plate 25 is disposed adjacent the key hole 20, whereby upon inserting the actuating pin 22 into the opening; 21 and turning the Same, the guard plate 25 will be turned over sition without the use of the actuating pin 22. In order to entirely lock the device,.the key 23 is inserted in the key hole 20 and the locking element 11 is sewing within the recess 5 asillustrated in Fig. 2. As the locking element: 11 occupies this position, the dog 15-moves' upwardly under the influence of thespring: 17 engaging the same and holding it against the stop 26 thus preventing the locking element from being moved. It will therefore be seen-that it will be impossible to swing the locking block 10 upon its pivot to disengage the keeper 3.
WVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as claimed.
Having thus=described my invention, what is claimed is 1. A lock comprising a pair of spaced blocks, a 'plat'e associated with said blocks, one of said blocks having a recess therein, a locking block pivoted to the plate, a locking element pivoted within said locking block and adapted to be moved within the recess of one of. the blocks, a spring actuated dog adapted to engage the locking element when in engagement with the block, and: an actuating,- member pivoted within the locking, block and disposed over the dog, and meansfor moving said actuating. member downwardlyto disengage the dog from the locking. element.
