Specification of Letters Patent. Pai-,gm Jim@ 3U?,
application and april 1, 191e. serial no. 286,636.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known ernoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beresford, in the county ei' Union and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and usetul improvements in Ventilating Ridge-Rolls for Buildings; and l do hereby declare the following to be a ull, clear, and exact description ot the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maire and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and .gures ot reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. v
irlhis linvention relates to new and useful improvements in a Ventilating ridge roll for buildings and consists of a simple and ecient device of this character having various ils of construction, combination and arnent oit parts which will be herein- YSully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically dened in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the aecomdrawings which, with the letters ot iielierence marked thereon, torni a ot this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the application of my invention to the ridge 'et a building, and
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view vertically through the same.
Reference now being had to the details ot the drawings by letter:
il designates a sheet of metal ot any suitf able hind, which is anged at B for attach nient to the root of a building. Said sheet et metal is bent at an angle at C and is bent "right angles, as at D, which is provided ith ventilating pertorations E. The upper y Jportion of the inclined part is bent to form that l, JOSEPH H. Wrcnl ing,
fastened to the roof,
a roll F, thence upwardly and bent to forni a convexed top H forming a ridge. Each side of the device is of similar construction forming two gutters l. A loosel mounted plate K having two inclined portions which rest upon the ridge at the upper end of the outwardly inclined part D, and each edge ot the plate is angled as at d.
By the provision of a combination ridge roll and ventilator made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that the outwardly curved portion over the pertorations will serve to prevent snow and rain 'from eni tering the perforations, and through the rnedium of the angled sheet of metal K air will be deflected toward the perforations in the inclined part of the device, and thus affording a means portion of the building upon which the apparatus is installed.
What l claim to-be new-isi:
ln combination with the ridge of a builda sheet of metal bent to form a housing coverin said ridge, and bent to formoppositely disposed gutters above the ridge, portions of the sheet below said gutters being bent at right angles, and the opposite edges of the sheetv provided with flanges which are the upper part of said angled portion being provided with ventilatingI apertures, a plate having its opposite edges angled and resting in said gutters, and its upper surface in lined in opposite directions to a central line over the ridge and spaced apart therefrom.
testimony whereof l hereunto my signature in presence oi two witnesses.
