Be it known that I, HARVEY F. CRAWFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dieing-Out Attachments for Presses, of which the following is a specification. i
'Ihis invention relates generally to a press which includes a iixed bed and a cross-head or ,carrier movable in apredetermined path toward and from the bed. The inventionthas for its object to provide dieing-out means for a press ofthis character, including a cutting'die attachable to .the fixed press bed, and having a continuous cutting edge adapted to cut from leatherboard or other sheet material la blank of any desired outline, and a cutting block of woodor other compressible material, at-
tachable to the crossfheadvor carrier, and having an acting face adapted to coperate with the die, the block beingrotatively adjustable to present fresh portions of its actingr face to the die.`

cludes all the parts or members shown in perspective by Fig. l, and described as follows: `1 4. represents a bottom plate, formed to be seated on the bed 12, and adapted to be secured in any suitable way to said bed, as by screws 15, Fig. 4, engaging tapped orifices (not shown) in the bed, and inserted in holes 16 in the plate.
17 represents a hollow cutting die having a continuous cutting edge, formed as here shown to cut a shoe stiifener blank from sheet material, although it will be understood thatthe diemay be adapted to cut blanks ofany desired shape from sheet material. The die is provided with ears 18, detachably secured by screws 19 to the bottom plate,said plate'being provided with an aperture 20 coinciding with the opening surrounded' by the die, -and permitting the escape of the cut blanks. `It will of course be understood that the bed l2 is formed to permit the blanks to pass through it.
21 represents a top plate, attachable to the carrier 13, in the example here shown, by means of a shank 22 formed on said plate and entering a socket in the carrier, and setlscrews 23 engaging the carrier and shank, as
shown by Fig. 3. Io thetop plate is detachably secured a stud 24, having a slotted head 25, and a reduced screw-threaded portion 26 engaging a tapped orifice in thetop plate.4
27 represents a cutting block, of wood or other suitable slightly compressible material, provided with a bearing 29 occupied by the stud 24, thelatter constituting a ournal on which the block may be turned orrotatively ,adjusted by hand, to present fresh portions of the lower or acting face of the block to the die 17. The stud head 25 forms an upwardly facing shoulder which confines the upper face of the block 27 against the top plate 21', so that the block is backed by the top plate.

In other words, the head of the stud coincides with the center of' the die when Vthe block and die meet.
