tion has been applied, and in which parts have been broken away.
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view H- of Fig. l.
My invention relates to protectors for Asigns or lamps and more particularly to outside illuminated signs or lamps, having a supporting band or frame and glass plates' surroundin an electric light bulb or other suitable lig ting means. The glass plates in devices of this character are frequently br ken by boys throwing stones and invaria 1y both glass plates and the electric light bulbs are broken simultaneously.
The object of my invention is to provide a protector which will prevent the simultaneously breaking of both glass plates and always protect the electric 'light bulb, and which protector is of such a character and so positioned that it will not detract from the appearance of the lamp or sign structure. y
rlhe precise nature of my invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, which will now be described, it being premised, however, that ivarious changes may be made in the detail of construction and general arrangement of the parts without departing 'from the spirit and scope of my invention as delined in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
the reference character 2 designates a pedestal for supporting the lamp structure or si which may be of any approved type. T e lamp structure or si comprises an annular metallic frame which is formed of the members 3 and 4, which members are secured to each other by means of a clenched `seam or joint as indicated at '5. 6 is a base member secured to the members 3 and 4,

which is provided with a suitable ange for securing the lamp structure to the pedestal or other support. The base member 6 is hollow for passing the same over an elec. tric light bulb 7 which may be supported inany desired manner on the pedestal 2, or may be supported on the lamp structure direct. rlhe members 3 and 4 are flanged at their edges for the reception-of anged rings 8, which form supports for glass plates 9. In the drawings these glass plates 9 are held in position within the anged rings 8 by spring wire rings 10.
Mounted within the frame formed of the members 3 and 4 is a wire mesh protector having a body member 11 which surrounds the electric light bulb, and wings 12l and 13 extending from the body member toward the inner surface of the supporting frame.v
ln the drawings these wings are secured to the joint between the two members 3 and Li, lalthough it will readily be understood that the protector may be made of any desired material other than the wire mesh, and may be secured within the frame in any desired manner between the glass 'plates 9. 1t will also be understood that the form of the protector may be varied in accordance with the requirements for the particular structure in which it is to be placed.
The advantages of. my invention result from the provision of a protector within a supporting frame which'is located between the glass plates mounted therein.
I claim: l
l. A lamp or sign structure having a supporting frame, a glass plate mounted in each side of the frame, and a protector interposed between the glass plates and hidden thereby substantially as described.
2. A l'amp or sign structure having a supporting frame, a glass plate mounted in each side of the frame, and an open mesh hidden structure for an electric light bnlb surrounded by the protector; substantially as described. v
4. A lamp or sign structure having a sup- 5 porting frame, means on each side of said frame for supportin a glass plate, a prohector between the g ass supporting means Within the frame, said protector having a,
body portion Jfor incasing en electric light bulb2 and wings extending from said body 10 portion toward the inner Wall of the supporting frame, substantially as described,
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
