Description
Feb. 18, 1930.
W. F. LUClTT ADVERTISING DEVICE Filed Feb. 4, 1928 JOHN qdslss JOHN JONES I ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 18, 1930 UNITED STATES WILLIAM F. LUCI'IT, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA ADVERTISING DEVICE Application filed February 4, 1928. Serial No. 252,011.
My invention relates to an advertising device in which the matter to be displayed 18 made more prominent by means of pro ection apparatus in which an electric lamp forms a part, and the object thereof is to provide an advertising device which will be enclosed in a semi-transparent globe on which may be painted matter calling attention to the name and business of the advertiser, is which will be illuminated both day and night by the electric lamp of the projecting device, which last device will project advertising matter upon the sidewalk or upon a screen. In the drawings forming a part of this 15 application Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a device advertising John Jones as a tailor.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of Fig. 1 with the suspension arm omitted.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged View of the projection device detached partly in section.
Referring to the drawings, 5 is a suspension tube, the inner end of which is fastened to a buliding or other support, not shown. 25' On the outer end of tube 5 is a cap 6, to which is detachably secured the outer metallic frame 7 having a hinged door 7 forming one side. Frame 7 has mounted in the back and door thereof semitransparent glass panes :0 8 on which the name of the advertiser, John Jones, and his business, Tailor, is painted with opaque paint. Within frame 7 and panes 8 is the projection device which consists of a tubular metal frame 9 in the top 3 of which projects a bulb 10, which is mounted in cap 6 andis connected by wires 11 and 12 to a source of electrical energy, not shown. These wires run through tube 5. Adjacent to bulb are apertures 13, which register with panes 8, so that the light from bulb 10 may illuminate panes 8 and thereby display the matter painted thereon at night. Adjacent to bulb 10 and mounted in projection device 9 is the projecting lens 14 and the focusing lens 15. Just below 15 is slide 16 in which matter to be projected and displayed is placed. In the bottom of projection device 9 is the focusing lens 17. At opposite sides at the bottom projection device 9 carries stud bolts 18 and 19, which pass through holes in the side and door of frame 7. At this point, the edge of frame 7 is I also cut away so that the lower end of projection device 9 may project therethrough. By opening door 7 the advertising matter can be changed in slide 16 from time to time. By having slides of different colors a change can be made in the matter projected on the sidewalk in the daytime as well as at-night.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. An advertising device comprising a metal frame having openings in the side thereof, one side of which is hinged to the frame, the sides thereof having apertures and an aperture in the edge of the frame at the bottom; semitransparent panes mounted in said side openings; a projecting device mounted in said frame adapted to project light through lenses in said projecting device and through the panes of the frame; and means to suspend said frame.
2. An advertising device comprising a metal frame having an aperture in the bottom of the edge and openings in "the side; semitransparent panes in the said side openings; means to suspend said frame; an electric bulb in the top of said frame,' and a projecting device mounted in said frame, said projecting device comprising a tubular metal body having openings near the top of the body in register with the side apertures in the frame and a focusing lens and a projecting lens adjacent to the bulb and a slide adjacent to said lenses and a focusing lens in the bottom of said body.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
. WILLIAM F. LUCITT.
