Description
M. K. MORRlS.
Improvement in Clothes-Pounders.
N0. 130,523, Patented Aug. 13, m2.
UNITED STATES MATTHIAS K. MORRIS, OF LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-POUNDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,523, dated August 13, 1872.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHIAS K. Monnrs, of Louisville, in the county of J efi'erson and in the State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pounders; and do hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification in which- Figure 1 is a vertical central section of my device, and Fig. 2 is' a plan view of the lower side of the same.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
My invention is an improvement in mechanical appliances used for cleansing soiled cloth: ing; and it consists in the device as a whole, substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawing, A represents the body or casing of the device, havin g outward and downward flaring sides, an inclosed upper and an open lower end, as seen in Fig. 1. Secured to or upon the inner side of the wall of the casing are a number of angular ribs, B, which incline upward and outward, so as to form between the same and said casing a triangular space, which decreases regularly in horizontal dimensions from its lower to its upper end, near the latter of which is provided two or more openings, b, that pass inward. A
square tube, 0, open at its lower end, is se cured to and extends downward from the center of the casing, and is provided with open ings which extend laterally outward through its walls. A socket, D, secured to the upper side and center of the device receives a handle, E, and completes the device, which is to be used in the same manner as an ordinary pounder.
The effect of this device is to force the water through the clothing by means of air, which, becoming compressed within the ribs and central tube, escapes outward through the lateral openings and presses the water contained within or around said device outward and downward with considerable velocity.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new 1s- The hereinbefore-described device, consisting of the casing A, the hollow perforated ribs B, the central tube 0, and the handle-socket D, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of \Vitnesses:
HENRY O. MOORE, Enos S. JAoonY.
