UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' GEORGE F. DUFFEY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO PACIFIC PORCELAIN WARE COMPANY, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORA- TION OF CALIFORNIA.
URINAL.
Patented May 27, 1919.
Application filed December 18, 1916. Serial No. 137,538.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. DUFFEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urinals, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates particularly to wall urinals.
An object of the invention is to provide a urinal having a discharge passage which is easy of access so that it may be readily cleaned.
The invention possesses other advantageous features, which, with the foregoing will be set forth at length in th following description where I shall outline in full that form of the invention which I have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming part of the present specification.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side view of a wall urinal, a portion thereof being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the line 22, Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the strainer.
Considerable difliculty is experienced in the maintenance of urinals, since the discharge pipe frequently becomes clogged and can only be cleaned by opening up the trap in the pipe or by disconnecting the pipe at some other place. Difficulty is also experienced in keeping them clean and sanitary, since it is impossible to dislodge matter which may accumulate behind the strainer. These difficulties in prior devices I have overcome by providing a removable strainer, which when removed exposes the outlet passa e.
Ihe urinal ofmy invention comprises a bowl 2 of conventional shape, formed of Copies of this patent may be obtained for vitreous china or other comparable material, such as porcelain or enameled iron. In this ous material, which in the present construction is held in place over the outlet pipe by lugs 5 attached to or formed integral with the floor 6 of the bowl. The strainer is provided with apertures over more or less of its entire surface so that a blockade of the lower apertures will not prevent the discharge from the bowl. The strainer is readily lifted or removed from the bowl so that the strainer and outlet pipe may be thoroughlycleaned and the fixture maintained in sanitary condition.
I claim:
A urinal comprising a bowl of vitreous material having a substantially horizontal bottom and a substantially vertical back and having an outlet passage at the junction of the back and bottom, a removable strainer of vitreous material having substantially vertical sides and a dome shaped top overlying said outlet passage and resting against said bottom and back and lugs disposed on said bottom for removably holding said five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D.
