.La riait 1 BOOT-ROBE.
To aZZ whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, MnLvIN E. Knorznn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pemberville, in the county .of WVood, State of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Boot'fRobes; and I do here by declare the following to be a full', clear, and eXactdescription of the invention,V such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make Vand use the same.
The invention relates to a lap robe, and more particularly to the classof combination laprobes and boot coverersadapted for use in vehicles, automobiles orythe like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a robe of this character wherein it hasthereonboot cover-ers, one being permanently a part thereof and the other detachable so that it can be interclianged from one side to the other of the robe, thus enabling the robe to be used when operating an automobile with a right or left hand pedal, and'the user of the robe can place either one or both feet .within the coverers, the lattel being of a size to wholly receive the feet of the user of the robe andare disposed in such a manner as to permit the said robe to be wrapped tightly about the limbs or the lower body portion ofthe user without possibility of the cold air entering through the robe, it thereby protecting said user from the cold air about the feet or legs.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a robe of this character wherein the feet coverers are in the form of flexible boots so that the feet of the user of the robe are Wholly confined therein and may be manipulated for operating the foot pedals of an automobile without unduly disarranging the robe when wrapped about the person or "causing the robe to become unwrapped in the use of the feet in this manner.
A further object 4of the invention is the provision of a robe of this character wherein the lower portion of the body of the user thereof can be properly covered to exclude cold air, thereby assuring warmth to the user of the robe.
With these and other objects in view7 the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 29, 19319.
`Application led April 24,. 1918. Serial No. 230,546.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a robe constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the robe showing one of the coverers at one side and the other coverer at the opposite side;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional elevation;
Fig. 4f is a fragmentary side elevation of the robe and boot coverers, the robe being wrapped about the legs of the operator and the boots on the feet of the operator within the boot coverers, a portion of the robe being broken away.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a lap robe of the usual rectangular shape, although the same may be of any desired shape,'and in this instance being made from a double ply textile fabric, yet the same may be made from any other suitable material and of any number of plies thereof.v
Formed spaced from the bottom edge and contiguous to one end edge of said robe A is a pair of spaced openings 5, preferably of oval shape, and having their lengths disposed in the direction of the bottom and top edges of the robes. Stitched or otherwise secured permanently to the robe A at one side thereof about the edge of one of the openings 5 is a flexible boot coverer in the form of a boot 6, preferably made from material corresponding to the material of the robe, and communication is had to the interior thereof through the opening 5 for the reception of one foot of the user of the robe, the bottom of the boot 6 being provided with a leather sole 7 although this sole may be made from other material.
On opposite sides of the robe A about the edge of the other opening 5 are suitable male members 8 of snap fasteners, the female members 9 of which are mounted at the edge of the open end of the leg portion 10 on a detachable boot covered in the form of a boot 11 which is made correspondingly to the boot 6 and having the leather sole 12 which may also be made from any other material. The detachable boot 11 can be worn on the robe at either side thereof.
The detachable boot 11 permits the use of the robe by a right or left hand driver, or that it may be used in an automobile use of the robe the shoe covered feet of the `user are inserted within the boots 6. and 11 and thereafter the robe A is wrapped about the legs and the lower portion of the body of the user, so that the body portion,
- legs and feet of the user will be completely Vwrapped to exclude cold air and thereby assuring warmth when the robe is in use.
Now if the robe is to cover the operator of an automobile either of the left or right hand driving type and another person, the boot 11 is adjusted to either side of the robe accordingly to the position of the driver so that his footl may be placed within the boot l0 for operating the foot pedal in the automobile, thus the'robebeing interchangeable to suit a right or left hand driver as the occasion may require, it being seen that when the drivel' is at the left hand side of the automobile both feet may be placed withinthe boots and onthe adjustment of the boot ll for a right hand driver but one of the feet can be placed within a boot coverer, namely,` the right hand foot.
' From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of use of the robe will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted. It is of course to be understood that the boots G and 7 are properly reinforced to prevent the collapsing thereof and to enable the feet to be inserted therein and withdrawn therefrom; also having suitable straps connected to the soles and to the top of said boots to avoid sagging while the robe at the point of the opening 'for the detachable boot may be provided with a flap to close said opening when the detachable boot is removed from the robe.
What is claimed is: l l. The combination with a lap robe provided with an aperture near one lower corner thereof, of flexible boot shaped foot coverers adapted for detachable connection with the robe at either side thereof about the edge of the aperture therein. n
2. The combination with a lap robe provided with a pair of apertures located one lower corner thereof, of fiexible boot shaped foot coverers, oneof the boot coverers being permanently fixed about the edge of one of the apertures to project from one side of the robe, and means for detachably fastening the other boot coverer on either side of the robe about the edge of the other aperture.
In testimony whereof, I aiiix mysignature,
in the presence of two witnesses.
