Description

J. SMITH.
Device for Taking Tailars Measurments.
No. 130,161. Patented Aug.6,1872.
WITNESSES INVENTO UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
JOHN SMITH, OF BURTON, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR TAKING TAILORS MEASUI REMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,161, dated August 6, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN SMITH, of Burton, in the county of Geauga, State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Instrument for Taking Tailors Measurements; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to get two perpendicular lines down the side of the person measured, from which the back and breast measurement canbe taken, and is accomplished as follows, to wit:
A and B are two straight pieces of brass or other metal, of about two feet in length. These pieces have each an arm, M M, on A, and N N on B, at right angles to A and B. The arm N N has clips 1 2 3 4, bent over so that M M will slide freely under them, bringing A and B closer together, if required. In M M there is a slot, through which the set screw 0 passes and screws into N N, thereby fixing securely the parts A and B at the desired distance apart. From the projecting ends of the arms M M and N N are suspended two plumb-balls O U.
To use it, the point S is placed closely under the arm of the person to be measured, the parts A and B adjusted to the required distance apart, and plumbed by means of the balls (J G; then by the common tailors tapeline the breast and back measurements are taken from A and B.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit:
The device herein set forth for taking tail- Ors measurements, constructed as described, for the purposes set forth.
JOHN SMITH.
