Description

W. T. MERSEREA U.
Improvement in Bridle-Fronts.
No. 130,144, Patented Aug. 6,1872.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
WILLIAM T. MERSEREAU, OF ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRlDLE-FRONTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,144, dated August 6, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. MERsE- BEAU, of Orange, Essex county, New Jersey, have invented, made, and applied to use a new and Improved Bridle-Front; and that the followingis a full, clear, and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a view of my improved bridlefront. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same.
In the drawing like parts of the invention are indicated by the same letters of reference.
The nature of the present invention consists in the construction, as more fully hereinafter set forth, of a bridle-front; the object of the invention being the production at a low cost of a bridle-front made sufficiently strong and flexible for the purpose for which it is intended to be used.
To enable those skilled in the arts to make and use my invention, I will describe its construction.
My bridle-front is formed by combining metal and leather and to carry out my invention I employ a strip of metal, A, made of the proper length, and a strip of leather, B, made sufficiently longer than the metal used to allow its ends to project beyond the ends of the metal A, so that loops may be formed of these projecting ends of the leather B.
The leather B is made not quite as wide as the metal, and is laid upon the metal A, which then has its top and bottom surfaces turned down and up so as to securely hold the leather in position within the metal. The bridle-front may then' be bent or formed into the proper shape, and loops be formed from the projecting ends of the leather B. When desired, the metal may be ornamented in any known way.
A bridle-front thus formed can be cheaply made, will be found very flexible and exceedingly strong for the purpose intended, the leather being firmly clamped by the metal, and the loops being formed in the projecting ends of the clamped leather.
Having now set forth my invention, what I claim asnew is As a new article of manufacture, a bridlefront constructed of metal A and leather B, substantially as and for the purpose described.
W. T. MERSEREAU.
In presence of- A. SIDNEY DOANE, WM. HASTINGS.
