DOOR-BOLT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 15, 1919.
Application led July 20, 1918. Serial No. 245,917.
`in open position while the locks are being applied thereto.
The. invention, among other features, comprises a casing with means for clamping it to the bottom edge of a door, a bolt carried by said casing and a frictional block on the end of the bolt for engaging the floor for holding the door against movement.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is siniple and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustra-ted in the -accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 shows my invention applied to a door with the parts in operative position.
Fig. 2 is an edge view with the bolt in retracted position.
Fig. 3 is a view of the casing with-the top removed.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section.
Fig. 5 is a sectional View of the bolt.
Fig. 6 is a cross section on line 6 6 of Fig. 2.
As shown in these views the device consists of a casing 1 provided with a removable cover or face plate 2 and carrying a bolt 3. The casing comprises the sides 4 and 5 extending at right angles to each other, and
the end 6. The side 5 is provided with a central screw threaded hole 7 and with plain holes 8 adjacent each end thereof. This casing is adapted to be placed over the bottom edge of the door with the lower corner of the door engaging the closed end of the casing. The face plate 2is then placed in position and is held to the side 5 by means of the pins 9 entering the holes 8 and the thumb bolt 10 engaging the screw threaded hole 7. When the screw bolt is screwed up the parts will be clamped to the door. this manner the device may be placed on doors of diiferent thicknesses. The side 5 carries the bolt 3, said bolt consisting of the base 11 having the circular part 12 in which the bolt proper 13 fits. A coil spring 14 in the end of the circular part 21 tends to force the bolt downwardly with its end projecting from the casing. The bolt is provided with a hand engaging part 15 which passes through an elongated slot 16 formed in the circular casing and provided with a lateral extension 17 to receive said part 15 to hold the bolt in retracted position. The end of the bolt is provided with a rubber head 18 which is adapted to engage with the floor when the bolt is forced downwardly by the spring and thus hold the door against movement.
By the use of my device the knobs and locks may be applied to the door without having to hold said door in open position by the knees or feet of the workman as is now necessary.
While the invention is more particularly adapted for carpenters in fitting locks to doors it will, of course, be understood that the device may be used for other purposes.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is A device for clamping a bolt to a door rio.
f v comprising a casing consisting of two sides extending at', right angles to each other and ing the othe side of the door7 guide pins on Said plate engaging with the plain holes, a thumb bolt on said plate engaging the screw threaded holes for adjustably clamping the 10 plate to the side and a spring operated bolt carried by said casing.
In testimony whereof I aX my signature.
