To all uhom 2'2 may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. TALIA rnnRo, a citizen of the United States, residing at La-Grange, in'the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jar-Closures, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the figures of reference marked thereon.
-Theinvention relates to new and useful improvements in ar closures, and more particularly to a jar closure having movable parts whereby access may be had to the contents of the jar through a. shifting of one of the movable parts relative to the other.
An object of the invention is to provide a' ar closure of the above character consist- 1 ing of two sections. one of which is connected' to the jar and the other of which is rotatably attached to the first section by having a portion thereof at its outer edge bent or knurled into a. rib engaging an annular groove formed in the other sect-ion.

Figure 1 is a sectional view showing the upper end of'a'jar with my improved jar closure attached thereto; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the inner section' of the jar closure.
My improved jar closure is shown as applied to' a jar 1 having threads 2 formed in the outer wall adjacent the opening in the jar. The jar closure consists of an inner section 3 and an outer section 4. The inner section 3 has its lower edge turned up, as indicated at 2, and this turned up edge is formed into spaced projections 6, 6, which are adapted to engage the threads 2 at the mouth of the jar.
The lower part of the side wall of the inner section 3 is knurled, as indicated at 7. This side wall is also provided with an annular groove 8. The upper portion of the inner-section is provided with an opening 9 in the form of a segment of'a circle, slightly tion 11 having an opening 12, which is also formed in thesegment of a circle slightly less than a semicircle. Centrally of this upper portion is an indented projection 13, adapted to receive the indented projection 10 on the lower section of the cover. The indented projection 10 is slightly larger than the indented projection 13, so that the central portions of the cover are held slightly spaced from each other, and this prevents the edge of the metal around the opening from scratching the enamel on the surface as it passes over the same.
This upper section 4.- of the cover is also provided with a. side wall 14, which is knurled and the extreme lower ed e 15 thereof is turned into the groove 8,.w ich serves as a means for holding the upper portion on the lower section, but permitting the same to rotate freely thereon. The two knurled sections of the cover may be readily turned on to the mouth of the jar, and one section may then be readily turned on the other by the holding of one of the knurled parts if found necessary and the turning of the other. By this turning of the outer section of the cover, the opening therethrough may be brought into register with the opening in the lower section, or the same may be turned to close the opening.
Itis obvious that minor changes in the details of the construction may be made, without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letinner and outer sections, said inner section having a. connection with the jar, the side wall of said inner section having a knurled section and an annular groove above the knurled section, said outer section having a depending side wall with the lower edge thereof turned into said groove for holding the sections together. but permitting one to rotate on the other. the side wall of said outer section being knurled. said sections of the cover having openings formed therein which may be brought into register by the turning of one section of the cover relative to the othw, said inner sectlon havlng an indented projection centrally thereof adapted to engage an indented projection centrally of the outer section of the cover, said indented projection on the lower section-being proportioned so as to positively hold the outer section of the cover from contact with the inner section thereof about the openings in said cover.
