To all'whom z't may concern," Be it known that 1" REUBEN LpTRnox, a citizen of the United States, residin'gs'at Shell Lake, in the county of Vashburn and State of Wisconsin, have 'invented wcertain* new and useful Improvements injFastener-s for Shutters, Storm-Windows, and Screens, of which thefollowing is a specification, refr'` erence being'had to'theaccompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved` fas# tener for shutters, lstorm windows, screens and the like, and the invention aims to pros. vide a simple, eficient andpractical device of this general character for holding the shutters, screens or storm windows closed in different adjusted positions, either entirely open or in different open positionsfor ventured and sold at a reasonable 'proty The invention further aims to-pro'vide a device of this kind, whichhas a broader field of usefulness, than similar devices formerly used, and owing to its simplicity of construction than those formerly used, the present provide means carried by the shorter hook f connecting the two sections ofthe shorter book, whereby the shutter or storm window,
screen or thellike may be held-in different adjusted open positions for ventilation.
l While the stri'icture at present illustrated is deemed preferable, it is obvious that the fastener is susceptible to changes, when re'- ducing thelfastener to a practical form for commercial purposes.v The right to these chang'f'es isy claimed, provided they aree'om prehended l within the scope of what isl closely united by means of @member or turn claimed. The invention lcomprises further features and combination of parts as'hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. In the drawings: Figure 1'y is a horizontal sectional view through a' e'ei'tventonal construction ofzwlndow frame showing a; pair of shuttersv in? Specification:ofiLettersPaftent. Patented Apr, appntignleureirary19,191e.'fseraine'aweoa L use, and the fastener applied', showingi-the shutters closed, and in' this figure the longer 'hoolris employed. for holding-enejofthe shutters indifferent adjusted open-positions in dotted lines.

showing one of .the'shutters held openv in different adjusted positions by the .shorter hook, .tions adjustably connected..
l ye shorter hook consisting'of ,twosecf Nifk Fig. 5 is a. detail sectional view through' y theshorter hook. tilation, and one which may be manufatti-y Referring moreespecially lto the drawings v 1 designates the conventional form of window frame, and 2' a shutter, Awhich isfhinged to the, frame a s, indicated at Y3. Theinner faceof the rshutter is provided with several 'eyes, whic' h maybe either vscrew eyes, vor eyes fixed upon the plates .whichin turn may be fastened to the shutter by screws. These eyes are designated respectively 4, 5, 6 and 7. On the outer face ofthe shutter an additional'eye Sis provided. Carried bythe eye may have a screw shank 10, which may be threaded into the window frame orthe :feye may b e carriedby a plate k11, which may be fastened 'to the window Vframe by Screws designed to engage the eye 4 for holding u the shutter closed, whereas the hook end of the member y14 may engage either one of the hooks, 6 orv 7 to holdvthe shutter 2 in dif- :85 f base of the window frameis an eye 9. This i ferent adjusted open positions. f It is `ob- I; i
- vious that when the shutter isentirely open,
as "shown vin the drawings, the bookfend of the longer member 14, may engage the eye f8, thereby holding the shutter back against theouter 'face of the building.
1 Figs.-
buckle 17. yObviously by adjustingth'e turn 4 and 5 the shorter hook '1'3con4 sists ofvtwo sections 15 and 16, which are 10'5 buckle, the two sections may be adjusted axially for, shortening or lengthening "the hook 13. Byshortening` or lengthening the ,110" y' onV theinner face of the shutter,to. e "enf hook 13 only a single eye. nay bel su plied shutter in different adjusted positions, for ventilation. It is to be noted that more than two hooksmay be employed or used in combination with an anchoring means, and since different anchoring means have been illustrated, it is obvious that any other anchoringmeans may be employed. It is to be understood that this device may be applied to other purposes than to window shutters, forinstance, itmay be applied to any swinging door, such as that of an automobile, carriagek orv the like. Y
The invention having been set forth, what i i'sclaimed 'as new and useful is:
1. In a fastener, the combination with anchoring means carried by the base of a windowk frame, of eyes carried upon the inner and outer faces of a shutter, and short and long hook members loosely united vto the anchoring means and adapted to engage the respective eyes, for holding the shutter open or closed. v
v2. They combination with anA anchoring means carried by the base of a window frame, of a series of eyes on the inner face of the shutter, and a single eye on the outer face of the shutter, of short and long hooks loosely connected to the anchoring means, the short'hook adapted to engage one of the inner eyes for holding the shutter closed,
Copies of this patent may be obtained for the longer hook adapted to engage either one of the inner eyes, or the outer eye for holding the shutter in different open positions or entirely open. 3. The combination withV an anchoring means carried by the base of a window frame, of av-series of eyes on the inner face of the shutter, and a single eye on the outer face of the shutter, of short and long hooks loosely connected to the anchoring means, the short hook adapted to engage one of the inner eyes for holdingy the shuttercloscd, the longer hook adapted to engage either oney of the inner eyes, or the outer eye for holding the shutter in different open positions or entirely open, the shorter hook comprising two sections axially alined and means for axially and adjustably uniting the two sections, whereby one section may be adjusted, so that the shorter hook may cooperate withthe single inner eye', for holding the shutter in different adjusted open positions.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
REUBEN L. TARBOX.
