Be it known that 1, Jon A. MCCUTGHEON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Tmprovements in fncinerators; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and inexpensive, yet a highly efficient and in every Way desirable incinerator for numerous kinds of waste material, it being intended that the device shall be so constructed as to permit its effective use in the home as well as elsewhere.

With the foregoing object in view, the in` vention resides in the novel features of construction and unique Vassociation of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and

illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

1n the drawing above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a substantially rectangular body formed of refractory material and provided on its upper end with an extension 2 preferably insulated therefrom by asbestos cement or the like as indicated at 3. The body 1 and its extension 2 which becomes in effect an integral part thereof, are formed with a vertical receiving passage 4 which is shown of substantially cylindrical contour, the upper end of said passage being preferably shaped to form a closet seat as indicated most clearly in 3 by the dotted lines 5. Any suitable air tight closure 6 may be provided for the upper end of the passage 4, while its lower end is closed by a pot 9 which rests on shoulders 8.

A passage 16 'inclines downwardly in the body 1, passes beneath and across the pot 9,

at 7, turns upwardly at 11 at the edge of said pot,A and at 12 discharges into the receiving passage 4, directly above the pot. The portion 7 of the passage 16V acts as a fire chamber which is supplied with air through the inclined part of said passage. The fuel is fed to the firebox through said inclined portion of the passage, and the ashes may be removed therethrough. The outer end of the passage 16 is preferably provided with a hinged door 17.

A main smoke and gas outlet stack 13 leads from the passage f1 opposite the end 12 of the passage 16. The stack 13 rises to a suitable elevation and may be equipped with a lamp box 14:. This lamp box may be used for burning a disinfectant or deodorizer and directing the fumes therefrom into the stack 13 through the passage 15. Also, when starting the fire in the fire chamber 7, it may be well to first burn a lamp in the box 14C in order to start an upward draft of air through the stack 13, thus preventing the smoke from the fire being discharged otherwise than as required.

The waste material is dropped through the passage 4 into the pot 9 and when the fuel is ignited in the fire chamber 7, the fire and smoke therefrom will travel through the portion 1l of passage 16 into intimate contact with the contents of the pot 9 as indi cated by the arrows in Fig. 1, being then discharged through the stack 13. Since the pot is directly exposed to the heat .from the burning fuel and the fiame from such fuel plays upon the contents of the pot, such oontents are quickly consumed.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that although my invention is of extremely simple and inexpensive nature, it will be highly efficient, desirable and sanitary. The device is intended principally for use in the home, yet may be elsewhere employed as will be readily understood. Since probably the best results are obtained from the details shown and described, they may be followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, considerable latitude is allowed for making numerous minor changes.
