I This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in letter boxes and has for its primary object, the provision of a letter box of improved and simplified construction, and inwhich will be provided a draw which may be readily withdrawn, from one end of the box for the purpose of depositing or removing mail matter and which carries a signal operating member which Wlll serve to operate a signal to one position as the drawis closedandoperate the signal in the reverse direction as the draw is opened or withdrawn.

The invention has for another object, the provision of improved and novel draw operating means which will be below the box and out of the way. i

The invention has for a further object, the

provision of a letter box of the above stated character which will be of such construction as to be completely water-tight when closed.

With these above and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel'construc-.

tion, combination, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth in the specification,

pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the complete device with the draw shown in open position by dotted lines.

Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 designates the body of the box which is preferably of elongated form and has one end closed, while its opposite end is open and is adapted to be closed by the outer end or head 2 of the sliding draw 3, said head 2 having a continuous flange 4 formed on its inner face for engagement with the inner face of the body 1 around the open end thereof for the purpose of preventing water from entering said body 1.

The main portion of the draw 3 consists of a horizontal plate forming a draw bottom and having its opposite longitudinal edges engagedin the U-shaped guides 5 secured to the inner face of the body 1 adjacent the bottom thereof and entering the sides of the same, the front end of the plate being secured to the inner face of the head 2, as shown at 6 while the rear end or inner end "7 is extended upwardly fora suitable distanceto prevent the mail matter from sliding ofii this end ofrthe plate as the draw is withdrawn or moved outwardly. Secured to the outer face of the head 2, as shown at 8, is the angular end of a trigger arm 9 which is. extended for sliding movement 7 against the outer face of one side of the body 1 as the draw is moved inwardly and outformed on its free rear end for engagement withthe weighted right angled lower end 11 of the signal arm 12 which is pivoted at its lower end, as shown at 13 to one side of the body 1, said signaling arm 12 having a suitable signal 14, preferably in the form of a flag, as shown in Fig. 2 formed upon its upper end. The signaling arm 12 is also of such length that the signal 14 may project slightly above the body 1 as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2 and by full lines in:

What is claimed is:

1. A letter box comprising a body having a slotted portion, a draw slidable through one end of said body, means carried :by one end of said draw to securely close said end of the body, a draw lever, connections between said lever and said draw, said connecitionsiextending throughsaid slotted portion, a signal pivoted to said body, and a trigger arm carried by said draw for engagement with said signal to operate the same and lock the :draw against outward movement.

2. A letter box including a body, a draw slida'b'ly mounted therein, a slotted arm pivotally secured to said draw and extending through said body, alever pivotally supported by said "body and a connection between one end of said lever and said slotted arm.
