BLOT'IER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
Application filed September 2, 1915. Serial No. 48,611.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILLIAM M. RHoAos, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan,
form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to blotter holders and its object is a simple and inexpesive device having blotter engaging portions and an additional portion providing a hand hold so formed as to provide a support for a button or the like bearing advertising matter. A further object is a holder of a single piece of wire having spring loop portions provided with guides facilitating the insertion of a blotter or other papers between the loop portions and having a portion at a right angle thereto providing a hand hold. These and other objects and the various novel features of construction are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing of the preferred form of the invention in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device as applied to a blotter or the like.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the reverse side of the device.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 4 is an elevation thereof showing the spring loop portions.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the drawing and specification.
The device in its preferred form is made of a single piece of wire and as shown in Fig. 3, the opposite end portions, near the extreme ends, are formed into double coils 1 and 2, there being practically two turns of the wire at each point as indicated in Fig. 4. The extreme ends 8 and 4 of the wire extend at an angle from the adjacent coiled portion extending forward thereof as indicated and serve as guides in placing the device on a blotter or the like to more readily insert the same between the coils. To further facilitate introduction of the paper between the coils the lower turn of each coil to which the guide portions 3 and 4 are connected is preferably formed at a slight angle to the upper turn of the coil in ea h instance,
respectively, as is indicated in Fig. 4. The turns of the coil are otherwise closely in contact so that on inserting paper between the turns'it is securely held inplace.
The central portion of the wire is also formed-into a ring orloop 5 at right angles to the plane occupied by the coils l and 2 as indicated in Fig. 4:. This loop portion 5 is connected with the coils 1 and 2 by the straight portions 6 and 7 respectively, spaced from the loop portion 5 as is indicated in Fig. 3 by means of the integral bent portions 8 and 9. The reason for thus spacing the loop 5 from the portions 6 and 7 connecting the same with the coiled portions 1 and 2 is to provide a spring loop adapted to form a support for a flanged button indicated by dotted lines at 10 in Figs. 3 and 4 and shown in position in Figs. 1 and 2. This button is of the ordinary type having a rearwardly inturned portion or flange ll spaced from the front of the button and providing a channel for the spring loop 5 in which it is adapted to engage as shown more particularly in Fig. 1. The bent portions 8 and 9 are so formed as to pass over the flange 11 of the button as indicated. It is to be understood, however, that this central portion may be formed in any convenient manner to hold a disk or other device similar to a button on which advertising matter may be placed, and by the use of a button or disk as stated, a convenient and serviceable hand hold is provided.
The device may be conveniently made of several parts but the preferable form of the device, as indicated in the drawings, is a single piece of wire, which it is understood may be either round, square or flat having blotter engaging portions with guides to facilitate insertion of'the blotter into the engaging portions, and a hand hold extending substantially at a right angle to the plane of the blotter engaging portions.
Having thus briefly described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States'is- 1. A blotter holder consisting of a single piece of spring wire formed near the ends in a pair of spaced coils of more than a single turn positioned in a horizontal plane, the extreme ends of the wire extending forwardly and outwardly therefrom forming guides for the insertion of the blotter between the said turns, a central spring loop portion extending at a right angle to the plane of and between the blotter holding coils, the said central loop being connected with the coils by similar rearwardly and downwardly bent integral parts adapting the loop to be inserted within the shell of a button. 7
2. A blotter holder consisting of a single piece of spring wire formed near the ends in a pair of spaced coils of more than a single turn positioned in a horizontal plane, the eX- trelne ends of the wires extending forwardly and outwardly from the coils at an angle to the plane thereof providing guides for the insertion of a blotter between the said turns, the wire intermediate the coils being formed in a central loop portion extending at a right angle to the plane of the coils providing a Copies of this patent may be obtained for hand hold substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. A blotter holder consisting of a single piece of spring Wire formed to provide a hand hold and a blotter engaging portion said blotter engaging portion being formed by a coil of more than a single turn intermediate the hand hold and terminal end of the wire, the terminal end extending forwardly from the back of the lower turn of the coil substantially on a tangent to the coil and in the plane thereof providing a guide for the insertion of a blotter between the turns of the coil.
' In testimony whereof, I sign thisspecifi cation.
