Description

E.J.BEARD.
Improvement in Qotton-Baie Ties.
N0. 129,917, Patented lu ly 30, 1872.
WITNESSESIZ INVENTDR.
UNIT D STATES PATENT Uri-10E;
ELEAZAR J. BEARD, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GEORGE N. BEARD, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BALE "IZIES.
- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,917, dated July 30, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
1 Be it known that I, ELEAZAR J. BEARD, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have made a certain new and use ful Improved Cotton-Bale Tie; and I do herea now more fully appear.
To enable those herein skilled to make and use my said improvement, I will novs more fully describe the same, referring to- Figurel as an isometrical view, showing bands in a lock. Fig. 2 is an end view of the sleeve-coupling.
The bale-tie A consists of a bar of metal, rolled, with flanges a a on each edge, and bent, forming the sleeve-coupling, clearly shown in Fig. 1. The. flanges a a form the entrance or opening a Through said'opening a the looped ends of the bands are passed into the oblong opening of the sleeve-coupling, disengagement of the bands being prevented by the flanges a a The flanges may be beveled or-ehamfered off, as indicated in Fig. 2, so as to allow the more ready entrance of the bands.
It will be noted that in this improvement there is, in forming same, no Waste of metal, the flanges being formed on the edges of bar when rolled. The bar is of suflicient width to form the length or size of couplings, and the remaining process is to cut ofi to desired length and simply bend the-coupling-pieces into the sleeve form shown in Fig. 1.
My improved coupling or tie piece is simple, cheap, compact, and by its use. an easy adjustment and locking of bands is achieved--advantages over ordinary ties or devices readily apparent. Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim is- 1. A sleeve-coupling, A, formed with flanges a a and opening a substantially as set forth. I
2. The combination of the coupling A, formed as described, with metallic bands, as
. and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of said invention I have, hereunto set my hand. p
' ELEAZAR J. BEARD.
