Description
J. FARAGO. 'COMBINATION KNIFE AND GUN.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 2I. I918.

Du m w w JOZSEI! FARAGO, 01 CLARENCE, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINATION KNIFE AND GUN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1, 1919.
Application filed September 21,1918. Serial No. 255,018.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jozsnr FARAGO, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Clarence, county of Center, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Knives and Guns, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in implements of warfare, and particularly to the combination of gun and a sword or saber blade.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a compound weapon which may be used for either of its purposes without interference with the function of the other.
A further object is to provide means whereby the sword blade may be used as a supporting standard for the gun, the same bemg turned as desired at a right angle thereto.
' These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure and in which-- Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing a weapon made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top plan of the same.
Fig. 3 is another side elevational view looking from the opposite side.
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view showing the1 parts extended so as to support the gun, an
Fig. 5 is an enlarged transverse sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
In carrying out the invention use is made of an ordinary type of army revolver having a stock 10, barrel 11, and revoluble cylinder 12, actuated by a lock 13, in the common manner.
Engaged with the body of the revolver, rearward of the lock 13, in the chamber 14,
formed there within, is a spring plunger 17, having a fixed washer 18, the lower extend ing end 19. of the plunger being surrounded by a coiled compression spring 20, adapted to press the plunger 17 laterally outward through the side.
When in an outer position the plunger enters into an opening 22, formed in a curved block 23, through which extends another plunger 24, having an operating head or knob 25, and pressed outward by a coiled compression spring 26, inclosed in the recess 27, formed in the block, the plunger being in alinement with the plunger 17 so that upon pressing the knob .25, the plunger 17 may be retracted from the block 23.
This block is formed with an elongated saber-like blade 30, extending to a considerable distance beyond the muzzle of the gun, and passing through the butt or rear end of the sword blade, is a rivet or bolt 32, the same also passing through a space washer 33, arranged between the inner side of the blade and the outer side of the revolver body, near the barrel, in such manner that when the plunger 17 is retracted, the blade may turn upon the ivot 32 as shown in Fig. 4, acting as an e cient support for the gun and servin to steady the same when aiming and disc arging the Having thus described my mvention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a gun, of a sword blade pivotedly engaged upon the side thereof, a detent set in said gun having a I art extending into a recess formed in the utt of said sword, and means for retracting said detent whereby said sword maybe turned at an angle to the barrel of said gun.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
J OZSEF FARAGO.
