To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARIA K. ENA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los An geles, in the county of Los Angeles and-State of California, have-invented new anduseful Improvements in Bed-Pans, of which: the following is a specification.

This invent1on relates to bed pans, and it has for its object to provide an improved de-.

vice or utensil of this character, which will be superior in point of relative simplicity and inexpensiveness in manufacture, convenience in use and in disposition when out of service, facihty 1n cleaning, maximum capacity 1n conjunction with compactness in form, and

which will be generally superior in efliciency and serviceability.

Vith the above and other objects in view,

provision, construction, formation, combination, association and relative arrangement of parts, members and features, all as hereinafter described, shown in the drawing, and

finally pointed out in claims.

Referring with particularity to the drawing, the improved bed pan comprises an elongated vessel or body 5, tapering sharply toward its forward end portion 6, and lies pronouncedly toward its rear end portion 7, at which ends respectively it may be provided with a loop or eye 8 for suspending the bed pan from a hook or nail or the like, and with a handle 9 whereby itmay be carried, or whereby also it may be suspended. The body 5 is of increasing depth toward its median portion, and tapers in depth toward is a vertical transverse sectional its end portions, and is provided with atop.-

with its two members, tight upon the'body' 5 and the closure member a may, if desired, have a finger-piece 13 whereby it and the member I) may be jointly manipulated. The members a and b of the closure A are preferably provided with flanged and lipped edge portions 14, having an overlapping flange fit in connection with flanges 15 upon the edge portions of the opening which such closure. is applied to, such flanges 15 extending downwardly into such opening. This insures a tight and a sanitary fit of the closure to the body 5.

In the use of the bed pan the forward end portion 6 with its sharp dimunition in depth, toward the central deepest portion of the vessel, will be found capable of convenient introduction into position for service, and the pronounced downward bulge in the central portion of the body produces a capacity of the vessel which is maximum for a bed pan of the size and dimensions and other features of convenience and comfort involved. The closure members may be readily manipulated either to entirely or partially open the device, and may be held jointly innclosed position by the latch device 0, effectively and in a sanitary'manner sealing up the contents of the vessel, largely due to the provision of the cooperating flange formations of the closure and body,

at 14: and 15. The device may be conveniently handled, and suspended when out of use, by means of the handle 9 and the loop oreye8.

It is manifest that many and various changes may be made in the construction, formation, association, combination, and provision of parts, members and features, all with respect to the specific showing of the foregoing description and drawing, in adapting the inventionto varying conditions of use and service, without departing other section of the cover and an edge of the opening.
