Be it known that I, CHARLES L. VAN.

DUNKER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of San, Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of Texas, have invented certain new Iand useful Improvements in Basin-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved sanitary temporary basin lining or protector.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a sanitary temporary basin lining or protector for use to line or cover the inner surface of basins or other forms of Wash bowls, commonly used in lavatories open to the public, especially those in use on railroad passenger coaches, steamboats and in hotels, whereby a person using the same will not be subjected to inconveniences and dangers often encountered when washing in such places, caused by the frequent unsanitary condition of the basin or bowl.

Still further, the invention also aims to provide a basin lining or protector of the character mentioned, which is provided with a suitable means for permitting the introduction therein of a projected Water inlet, that is, that type of inlet as used in conjunction with certain types of' lavatories now marketed, which lavatories have for their water inlet, a projecting lip, whereby, to defleet the entrance of the water toward the bottom of the same, without doing material injury to the basin lining or affecting the efficiency of the same in any way.

The improvements in the details and arrangement of parts will be apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in connection with the specific description hereinafter contained and wherein the preferred embodiments of the invention are disclosedl for the purpose of imparting a full understanding of the present improvements.

Referring more specifically to the drawings. wherein like reference characters designate corresponding pairs in the several views. my improved sanitary basin lining or protector is composed of a. single sheet of Patented Mar. is, 1919.

elliptical out flexible material, such as heavy -the basin lining'l is formed a slit 2, the said slit extending parallel to the peripheral edge of the basin lining and providing for means whereby inlets in the bowl or like moans may be introduced therethrough in order that the basin lining may be filled with the cleansing fluid. Since the basin lining is formed with curved side portions, it is obvious, that means must be pro-vided for whereby bulging or lapping of the same will ybe prevented and to accomplish this end, I preferably, corrugate the said sides of the basin lining, the corrngations as shown in Fig. 1, being wider anddeeper and in proximity of the top of the basin lining, but gradually decreasing in width and depth as they recede or diverge toward the bottom thereof. By corrugating the sides, it is to be noted, that a dual object is attained, namely, the provision of properly formed side portions for the bowl. and secondly, reinforcing of said side portions whereby to prevent collapsing of the same when packed `for shipping and to permit expanding of the side portions when the lining is placed within a basin or other form of wash bowl, thus permitting the lining to automatically adjust itself to the contour of the basin.

If desired, the basin linings may bc formed without the slot 2, or they may during the forming. or shaping thereof, be secured or otherwise weakened at this point1 thereby permitting the user to readily break the same to permit the introduction of the water from the p-roiection or opening in .the side of basins as used in lavatories of railroad passenger cars and other public places. Should the basin lining be made without the slit 2 or the scoring of that point as above described. the same is preferably formed .more shallow so that it maybe readily seated It Will be understood, thatany suitable form of material may be used in forming the basin liningor protector, such as heavy oiled paper, waxed paper, including the conventional parafned form, transparent parchment paper, and paste or straw board, or in fact any form of material which will serve to retain Water for a ltemporary period of time as will. permit the proper cleansing operation to be carried on. It is to be understood, that although I have stated in the l above description that the lining is elliptically cut, the invention is not limited tothis particular shape Aand further the ellipse or any other shape of material as used may be varied in size such as conditions or preference may dictate.

I provide means whereby the lining may be v readily emptied swhen the -cleansing operation has been completed by forming within the bottom of the bowl an opening, indicated by the numeral 7 and place thereover a suitable .disk formed of material similar to that from which the bowl is formed, as indicated by the upon one side thereof, which tabis secured to a portion of the bowl bottom by some suitable swater proof adhesive 1 0. Instead of forming the basin lining of paper and the like material, rubber may be substituted therefor. A lining formed of a thin grade of rubber shaped as shown in the Fig. l, either with or without the corrugations, as will be appreciated, will allow usage of the same for 'an extensive period of time.

Still further embodiments of the invention than those herein defined may be resorted to as conditions or preference may dictate, as may be in keeping with the hereto appended claim. .V v
