A rnr PORTABLE WINDOW-SEAT.
Application filed April 16, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. F. BULL- WINKEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Weehawken, in the county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable WindowSeats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to portable seats or scaffolds for the use of window cleaners and others, and has for its object the provision of a device of this character which may be quickl and conveniently engaged detachably upon a window ledge or sill and affords a safe and secure support upon which a person may stand or sit when washing the windows from the exterior of a: building.
A further object of the invention is to provide such an article embodying means of novel construction and arrangement by which it may readily be adjusted to fit the particular window to which it is applied.
lVith the above and other objects of similar nature in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevatiOn of the device applied to a window sill.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view.
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line H of Fig. 3; and,
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the device showing it in folded position and removed from the window sill.
ieferring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing the invention includes a: substantially rectangular frame consisting of side and end members 10 and 11 respectively, the inner edges of the side members being grooves longitudinally as shown at 12. Mounted within the frame and having its end reduced and engaged Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18, 1919.
Serial No. 162,353.
slidably in the grooves 12 is a transverse bar 13 to the under side of which is hinged as at 14 a supporting member 15 that, when in use, extends at right angles beneath said bar and is held in such position by means of a hook 16 engaging an eye 17 fixed in the latter. Feet 18 are carried adjustably at the ends of the member 15 through the medium of bolts 19 passed slidably through slots 20 formed on said feet, wing nuts 21 being provided for securing them in adjusted position. Secured in any suitable manner to one of the end members 11 are a. pair of spaced hooks 22 which are adapted when the frame is positioned upon a window ledge or sill to engage the inner edge'thereof as shown most clearly in Fig. 2, while the feet 18 of the supporting member 15 are adjusted so as to rest upon the sill and maintain the frame in a substantially horizontal position. The hook 16 is connected to the bar 13 and is detachably engaged in the eye 17 to hold the member 15 in supporting position. In addition to the hooks 22 for securing the seat upon the sill there is provided a strap 23 having an eye 2st at one end adapted to receive a hook 25 driven into the wall beneath the sill and further provided with spaced pairs of openings 26 arranged to interchangeably receive a pair of pins 27 secured in the adjacent portion of the sill. By reason of the sliding mounting of the bar 13 in the frame, the supporting member may be readily adjusted to accommodate the seat to sills of different depths as will be evident. The strap 23 is hinged at 23 to the adjacent end member 11 as is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. On the opposite end of the frame is a: loop handle 30 which permits the carrying of the seat and the easy handling thereof in the placing of the same in position for use. A board 28 is hinged as at 29 to the upper side of the frame upon which a. person may sit or stand as desired while washing the windows.
It is understood that when the device is not in use the hook 16 is disengaged from the eye 17 and the member15 folded against the bar 13, there being thus produced a compact bundle which may be conveniently her having slida'ble connection With the carried from place to place. I guideways, a seat body carried by the frame What I claim is and means for detachably securing the 10 A Window seat of the character described frame to a Window sill.
5 comprising a frame having an open center, In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signathe opposite edges of said open center being ture. formed With guideWays a foldable leg mem- JOHN H. F. BULLWINKEL.
