INVENTOR AFqya/ H 67210, BY mww.)
ATTORNEY FLOYD HAROLD HORTON, 0F ATLANTA, INDIANA.
BROOM-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Appucation med January 1s, 191s. serial No. 212,070.
To all lwhom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FLOYD HAROLD HOR- ToN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Hamilton and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to broom holders and the principal object thereof is to provide a broom holder which will effectively retain the broom in a position where the same may be readily grasped and removed therefrom.
A second obj ect of the invention is to provide a broom holder which will support the broom effectively and yet will not mar the handle of the same.
Another object of the invention is to provide a broom holder which will positively support the broom against movement and' which is held in such position by its own weight.
Another important object of my invention resides in the provision of a broom holder which consists of few parts, which may be readily assembled and disassembled, and which may be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
The above objects together with others will be fully brought out in the following- Specication and the inventive features eX- plicitly defined in the appended claims.
The invention consists of combinations, constructions, arrangements and operations which will be hereinafter specifically set forth and illustrated -in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a broom holder constructed in accordance with my idea and supporting a broom therein, the broom being shown in dotted lines,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same,
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the broom removed, the full line position of the device being the position for holding the broom, while the dotted line position illustrates the manner in which the movable part of the device is moved in order to release the broom, and
. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
Like characters of reference designate like parts in all the views.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates an elongated block which is :secured to the wall or any other support through the medium of fastenings 6.
Secured to the front-face of the block 5 adjacent its lower end isa block or clamping jaw 7 which is secured tothe block 5 through the medium of a fastening 8. The outer longitudinal or the vertical face of the block 7 is formed with a substantially semi-cylindrical groove 9 which is adapted to conform to the curvature of the broom handle.
A movable jaw or block 10 is provided which is also provided with a semi-circular longitudinal groove 11 which is adapted to .accommodate the broom handle at a point diametrically opposite that point engaged by the jaw 7. The groove 11 in the block 10 and the groove 9 in the block 7 each are lined with sandpaper or other rough material, in order to prevent the broom handle from slipping through the jaws.
A hinge connection or bracket consisting of a pair of wires 12 and 13 each has one extremity loosely engaged with one of the side longitudinal faces of the block 10. These wires 12 and 13 are twisted together as at 14 at their medial portions and extend in Aopposite directions, and thence bent at right angles and then inwardly to afford trunnions 15 which are mounted in bearings 16 on the block 5.
From the disclosure it will be obvious that when the broom handle is placed between the jaws 7 and 10 in the manner shown in Fig. 2, the broom will be held in place by its own weight, and that upon the moving of the block 10 or broom handle upwardly so that the block 10 occupies the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, the broom may be readily released.
This disclosure is merely illustrative and I wish to here state that the invention can be embodied in constructions other than the one herein specified, and that my limits of such embodiment are only governed by the subjoined claims.
What is claimed, isz- 1. A broom holder comprising a supporting plate, a jaw fixedly secured to said plate, arms hingedly connected to the plate above said jaw, and a second jaw releasably carried by said arms and arranged to coperate with said first mentioned jaw.
2. A broom holder comprising a supporting plate, a jaw iXedly secured to said plate, parallel clamping arms secured together at one end to form a, loop and hingedly connected with said supportin plate above said jaw and a second jaw re easably clamped Patented Mar. 18, 1919. i
operating with said /Istmentioned; jaw. Y Y
3. A broom holder comprising a supportsaid rst mentioned jaw. i 1 ing plate, a jaw fixed to said plate, a pairof fIntestirnony whereof I ax my signature parallel clamping arms secured together at inv-presence of two witnesses. one/end yandYhingellvffczomre'oted to the-plate FLOYD HAROLD Iat a point above `said jaw, the lfree ends of lVitnesses: said arms being extendedinvvadly'at right 'K1a.i\T1\*ETH*Eiaimiv7 angles, and. second jaw. provided with side MILDRED SHAFFER.
