of the line-men of ascending the poles for attaching the telegraph or telephone wires to the supportingwire orcable commonly designated as the messenger- Another object of the invention is to provide an angularly disposed passer associated with the supporting cable or messenger and adapted to permit the supporting clips which retain the telephone or telegraph wire, to freely pass from the ground to their proper positions on the messenger.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clip passer of this character which will guide the'clips from a point on the ground to an elevated position whereby the clips will be guided to properly catch upon the messenger for supporting the telephone and telegraph wire in its proper suspended position from the messenger.
A further object of this inventionis the provision of clip-passer which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in 7 construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subj ected.
Fora full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention,

is a front elevation of a fragmen- Referring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indlcate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the supporting pole A is provided, adjacent its top, with a retaining hook 1 which receives and supports the'supportmg cable 2 commonly designated as the messenger. A guide bracket 3 is constructed from a suitable length of metal or other suitable material, and consists of the elongated arm 4 having a flange 5 integrally formed therewith and the flange is provided with suitable openings for receiving the fastening elements 6 whereby the flange may be rigidly fastened to the pole. As shown by Fig. 4 of the drawing, the arm 4 is spaced away from the flange for permitting the upper edge of the arm 4 to provide a traclrway 7 that will be free from obstructions whereby the supporting clips 8 may freely pass over the entire length of the arm.
The arm 4 will be disposed at an angle and is rigidly held in this osition by the flange 5 as clearly shown by Fig. 1 of the drawing.
The lower end of the arm 4 is provided with and twisted'on the opposite side of the arm 4 as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing for se curing the conveying cable 10 to the end of the arm. It is to be notedthat the trackway which is formed by one edge of the arm 4 is longitudinally alined with the top of the cable 10 this being accomplished by the means of the manner of fastening the end of the cable to the arm 4; This construction provides an unobstructed trackway for the clips 8 so that they freely pass from the'conveying cable 10 and on to the tracl'rway on the arm 4. The upper end of the arm 4 is curved and has its end in engagement with the messenger 2. The arch of curved end of the arm 4 permits the same to be slightlyelevated above the messenger 2 so that the clips 8 may be raised and properly guided whereby they will freely pass from the curved portion 7 a bifurcation 11 for receiving the messenger 2 as clearly shown by Fig. 3 of the drawing. This provides an additional support for the clip-passer and prevents movewith a hook 13 at its upper end and this hook fits over the curved edge ofthe trackway 7 so that the clip is permitted to freely pass overthe trackway when thetelephone orte'legraph is pulled in the direction indicated bythe arrow in Fig. 1. The lower end of each clip is also formed with .a hook 14 for receiving the telephone or telegraph wire 12in the usual manner.
In operation it is merely necessary to mount the clip-passer as shown by Fig. 1 of the drawing by attaching the flange 5 to the telegraph pole and permitting the curved end to rest upon the messenger 2. The free terminal of the conveyer cable 10 is disposed adjacent the ground and fixed in any suitable manner. The clip-passer and the conveyer cable 10 are then supplied with a plura'lity of clips having the telephone or telegraph wire attached in the usual manner so that all of the parts will be assembled as vshown in Fig. 1 and thedevice will then be .ready for operation. It is merely necessary for theline-men to grasp the end of the telephone or telegraph wire and pull the same in the direction indicated by the arrow in ,Fig. 1 and the wire will then be drawn from the source of supply on theground while the Clips Will 'be fed to the telephone wire and the conveyer cable 10 to be drawn along the clip-passer and supplied to the messenger 2 in their proper relative positions. It is pointed out that the hooks 14 of the clips 8' ave their bills turned slightly inwardly so that the telephone or telegraph wire is snugly held to the clip thereby preventing the Wire from slipping through the clip and also assisting the clipxin its travel along the clipfpasser. This operation may proceed until any desired length of wire has been sup plied to the messenger '2 and the flange 5 may then be disconnected from the pole and removed.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a very simple and durable clip-passer has been provided, the details of which embody the'preferred form. I desire it to be understood however, that slightchanges in the minor details of construction may be made Without departing from the spirit of r r the invention or the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

1. A clip-passer comprising a guide bracket formed from an elongated arm hav- 7 ing a portion of its length disposed at an posed portion for supporting the arm, a

A clip-passer comprising a guide bracket formed from an elongated arm having a portion of its length disposed at an angle, means attached to the angularly disposed portion for supporting the arm, a curved portion formed at the upper end of the said arm, a standard formed on and depending from the'said curved portion for elevating the same and holding the same in elevated position, the edge of the said arm being rounded to provide a longitudinal trackway extendingover the curved portion, the lower end of the arm havinga plurality of openings formed therein andadapted to receive the strands of the said conveying cable when thestrands are separated and bracket formed from an elongated arm hav- 7' ing a portion of itslength disposed at an angle, means-attached to the angularly disposed portion for supporting the arm, a curved portion formed -at the upper end of the said arm, a standard formed on and de pending from the said curved portion for elevating the same and holding the same in elevated position, the edge of the said-arm being rounded :to' provide a longitudinal .trackway extending over the curved portion, the lower end of the arm having a'plurality of openings formed therein and adapted to receive the strands of the said conveying cable when the strands are separated and passed through the openings, the said frayed .end of the cable permitting the said trackway and the upper edge of the said cable to be in longitudinal alinement.
