Application filed December 16, 1916, Serial Ila-137,394.
To all whom it may oonoarnfi 7' c 'Be it known that I, JAMEs E. LINDSAY,
ment supporter and more particularly to an improved clamp for gripping the hose or garment whereby the same may be effec dicate correspondingpartsthroughout-the tively supported without danger of injury being done to'the garment.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a clamp of this character having gripping jaws adapted to clamp a comparatively large portion of the hose or garment whereby the strain ordinarily associated with a supporting device of this character will be evenly distributed thereby diminishing the possibility of injury being done to the garment.
As a further object of the invention the clamp includes gripping jaws shaped to conform to the leg of the wearer so that no discomfort will be felt by reason of the large gripping surface of the jaws.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a hose and garment supporter which consists of comparatively fewparts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following'description and .the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form tion,'in which; Figure 1 is a side elevation. 'Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.

several views, the strap. or tape 1, i siem supporting bar 2 is attached to the tape 1 and is provided withaslot 3.
,TWo comparatively long j j j are constructed from elongated strips of metal or other suitable material I and "the proximate surface of each jaw carries; a
plate 6 of rubber or jsimilar;material, the
same being provided withaseries of corrugations or. serrationsv whereby the garment maybe effectively gripped when the jaws a removed together.
As shown by Fig. 3
aws 4 and ofthe drawing, the jaws are of arcuate configuration so that they will adapt themselves 1 to the curve of the leg of the wearer when the device is employed for supporting hose. This construction permits a relatively great portion of the garment. or hose to be engagedby the clamp while, at the same time, the garment or hose will not be distorted since the curve. of'the jaws permits them to assume the natural shape of the garment or ose. r
A pair of supporting arms 7 and 8 are formed by bending a strip of metallic material at a pointintermediate its ends for providing a loop 9; This loop is engaged in the slot 8 of-the bar 2 and thearms 7 and S are permitted to depend on each side and have their terminals integrally connected to the jaws Land 5. Each arm 7 and 8 is formed into a substantially semi-cylindrical shape and is then pressed inwardly atreg: ular intervals along its length so that each arm is provided with a series of annular de-' pressions 10 for a purpose presently described. After the strip is bent for forming the arms 7 and 8, the loop 9 is, suitably temperatured or hardened for forming a spring whereby the arms 7 and 8 will normally be held in open position as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing.
Extending aroundboth of the-arms 7. and
A 8 is a ferrule 11 of substantially rectangular configuration as'clearly. shown by Fig. 3 of the'drawing. Extending transversely across each end of the ferrule-is apin upon which is rotatably mounted a :roller 12. These rollers are normally inengagement with the end' one of the annular depressions 10.
To apply the. jaws to a garment it is merely necessary to place a portion of the garment between the plates 6 whereupon the ferrule 11 will be pressed downwardly, the rollers 12 forcing the arms 7 and 8 together 7 until the garment is tightly gripped Upward slipping of the ferrule is effectively prevented by virtue of the rollers disposed in the annular depressions 10;
V Copies of this patent maybe obtained for Referring to Figs, 5. and 6 of the draw ingit will be observed that the arms 7 and 8 are formed from flat strips of material andthe arm, 8 has a slot 13-. A' connecting rod .14 has its end projected through an openingin the arm 7 "and its terminal is provided witha head 15' for limitingthe movement of the connecting. rod through.

V Pivotally connected tofthe oppositeendof the connectingflrod is "a lockingfllatch 16 which has a large end through which a pin isfprojectedfor receiving the [end of a connecting rod. Whenthe lockingv latch '161is extended downwardly as'shownby Fig. 6. of
