'and cleaned in order that it may be kept substantially vermin-proof. Further, I aim to provide a coop which will be well ventilated and one which will admit sunshine. Still further, it is a desire to render the coop a general purpose one in that it may be used as a hens nest, one in which brooding hens may be penned and one in which a hen and young chicks may be housed.

The invention resides in the novel features of construction which will be later described in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating one preferred embodiment, and wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation;

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one form of partition which may be employed;

Referring specifically to the drawings, a base or floor is provided at 9 which rests on transverse risers 10 suitably secured thereto. Suitably shaped sides 11, separate from the floor 9, are detachably secured in an upright position to the floor by means of hooks 12 pivoted to the risers at 13 and detachably engageable with eyelets 14: on the sides. Any suitable number of these hooks may be used and they may be arranged at any desired locations. Also, in lieu of the hooks, any satisfactory separable fastening means may be employed. On the inteerior of the sides adjacent their ends, pairs of stiles or strips 15 are fastened which provide grooves be tween them to slidably receive ends 16. These ends 16 limit the movement of the Specification of Letters Patent.

sidesto a verticalposition, andthe sides are fastened against the ends by any suitable means, for instance, by elongated hooks 17 pivoted at 18 .to certain of the stiles 15 and which engage eyes 19 on other or the said stiles. See Fig. 2.

At a desired location intermediate the ends 16, spaced apart pairs of stiles 20are fastened'on the interior of the sides to provide grooves into which a partition 21 removably slides.

It will be noticed that the top ofone of the walls 16 as at 22 and the top of partition 21 are shaped as substitutes for rafters to support a gable roof consisting of sections 23 and 24, separate from each other, and loosely resting on the part 22 and partition 21. The sections 23 and 24: may be secured together against displacement by means of an anchor 25 which is fastened to section 23 (See Fig. 6) and removably extends through a bracket or strap 26, and by means of one or more hooks 27 pivoted to section 24 and engageable with eyelets 28 on sections 23. A door 27 ispreferably provided as part of the section 24:, being hinged thereto as at 28, having a transparent panel 29 and being operable to expose a space through which fowls may be inserted or removed.

It will be noted that the sides 11 have portions 30 thereon provided with an inclined upper edge 31. A removable roof section 32 rests on these edges, being secured in place by means of hooks 33 pivoted to the sides 11 and engageable with eyelets 34 on the section 32.

Vertically movable hinged doors 35 are provided in each end 16 through which fowls may be inserted or removed or which may be opened to ventilate the interior. The door spaces may be closed by screens 36 which are slidable over the doorways by means of handles 37 which move in elongated slots 38 provided in the end walls 16. Suitable vent means may be provided at 11 and 16.

lVithin the coop, drinking fountains 39 of any suitable construction, may be disposed where advisable. Also feeding bins 40 may be ositioned at desired locations.

t will be noticed that the inner end of the roof 2321 is spaced from the partition 21. This provides a ventilating space and also enables a screen 41 to be employed as part of the partition to close spaces through which the fowls may escape. Screen 41 is directly fastened to short strips 41 of partition 21. Also, a hook 452, similar in function to the hooks 17, may be pivoted at 43 to one of the stiles 20 and engage an eyelet 44 on'another of said stiles. One or more doorways or spaces 45 may be provided in of the coop and a hen and her brood, the

chicks traveling between the different sec-- tions through the doorways 45.

Since merely the preferred embodiment has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that various changes in the details of constructions may be resorted to within the spirit and scope of the invention. For instance, when the coop is used in which division into sections is unnecessary, the doorway 45 may be considerably larger than as shown in Fig. 4. Such a suggested construction is shown in Fig. 5.

I claim A coop having a plurality of compartments, the roof of one of said compartments extending above that of the other compartments and thereby providing a space, barrier means for said space, and a screen carried by the barrier between said roofs, and spaced from said barrier, to provide a ventilator.
