GROVER CLEVELAND WELTER, OF ROSWELL, NEW MEXIQO, ASSIGNOR ONE-HALF T0 FRANK GOLEY YOUNG, OF ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO.
CANTEEN-HOLDER.
Application filed February 15, 1918. Serial 110,217,383.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'GROVER C. WELTER, a citizen of the .United States, and a resident of Roswell, in the county of Chaves and State of New Mexico, have invented a new and Improved Canteen-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to canteen holders and has reference more particularly to the means for strapping the canteen to a suport. P An object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive canteen holder which will retain the canteen firmly on its support and prevent the rattling of the canteen on the support during the motion of the body by which the support is carried.
With the above and other objects in view, the nature of which will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,v forming part of the application, similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l isan elevation of a canteen support embodying my invention, a portion of the structure being broken away to show the details of construction;
Fig. 2 is a top plan View;
Fig. 3 is a side elevation;
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary elevation as in Fig. 1, showing the strap loose from the canteen and in a position to engage it to lock the canteen to the support;
Fig. 5 is a section through the strap-locking means on the canteen when the canteen is locked by the strap to the suport; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged longitudinal section through the locking means of the strap.
Referring to the drawings, 7 is the canteen and 8 is the bed of the support. The
bed is provided with seats 9 suitably spaced to engage the corners of the canteen when the same is placed on to the support to prevent the longitudinal or lateral displacement of the canteen on the support. A strap 10 has one end 11 thereof anchored to the bed 8 by means of a staple 12. The other end of the strap is secured to ears 13 of a buckle 14. The buckle is, therefore, secured to the end of the strap 10. The strap is split to form an opening 15 through which the mouth 16 of the canteen may project.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919..
The buckle 14 has a slot 17 through which the head of a pin 18 is adapted to project. The pin is mounted pivotally in a strip 19 rising from a stirrup 2O maintained on the 7 bed 8 by springs 21 which are mounted on bolts 22 projecting from the bed through eyelets 23 of the stirrup and for which the bolts serve as guides. The free end of the strip 19 is folded over outwardlytoform a hook 24 into which the end 25 of the buckle is adapted to fit.
By bringing the end 25 of the buckle 14 into engagement with the hook 24 of the strap, when moving said buckle 14 toward the strip, compression is applied to the' the stirrup on the bed, and a tying strap connected by one end to the bed and by the other end to the stirrup.
'GROVER CLEVELAND VVELTER.
