OLIVER VANORMAN, OF FOND DU LAO, WISCONSIN.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,258, dated July 16, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, OLIVER VANORMAN, of Fond du Lac and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Truss-Brace Attachments for Axle-Skeins, of which the following is a specification.
Nature and Object of the Invention.
My invention relates to the combination of a rod or brace running under and lengthwise of the axle on the under side, and attached to the sleeve of the thimble on the under side by means of a hook east solid upon the sleeve of the skein; and also a loop upon the ends of said rod.
General Description.
A is theskein; B, the sleeve of the skein; O, the hook cast upon the under side of skein. D is the loop on the end of the rod or truss E.
Said hook is cast upon the under side of the sleeve of the thimble or skein, and in order to attach the rod there is a loop made in each end of the rod by welding the same, and the rod should be made of the right length that is required when-the rod is upon the hooks, and is placed upon the hooks by heating the rod in the center, so as to make the rod long enough to drop upon the hooks. cooling, the rod will shrink enough to make the rod tight upon the hooks, and after that the rod may be tightened by a screw-bridge in the center of the axle-trees.
Claims.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the hook 0, cast upon the under side of the sleeve of the thimble or skein, together with the loops D D on each end of the rod E, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
