To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN A. Cowau'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Midlothian, in the county of Ellis and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in tagen-Standards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to standards for wagons, and the object is to provide stand ards which are strong and durable and which are adjustable to any size bolster' and adjustable to different positions on a bolster to make the width between the standards wider or narrower and which can be easily and quickly mounted on a bolster and which do not require the vcutting of large openings in the bolster, as the standards do not penetrate the bolster. i
Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the, invention will he more particularly pointed out in the claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application and specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a standard attached to a bolster. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the rings omitted. Fig.\3 is a side elevation of a standard attached to a bolster, the shape of the standard being slightly varied and showing a variation in the braces used. Fig. 4t is a plan view of the same with the rings omitted. Fig. 5 is a side elevation mounted on a bolster and showing another variation in the braces used. Fig. 6 is an edge view of the standard, a part being broken away, looking toward the end of the bolster. Fig. 7 is a plan view of one of the braces shown in Figs. 5 and G. Fig. 8 is a plan view of one of the braces shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The standard has a body 1 and a base 2 made integral therewith. The standard has flanges 3 on thel inner sides and beads 4 on the outer edge formed integral therewith. The standards are preferably made of malleable cast iron. The base Q, rests flat on the bolster 5 and is attached thereto by a bolt G with a nut 7. The standard is further attached to the bolster by braces 8, a brace being placed on each side of the standard. A single bolt 9 with a nut 10 attaches both braces 8 to the bolster. In the variation shown in Figs. 8 and 4, the braces are substantially double in strength and size of the braces 8 shown in the previous views. The horizontal portions of the braces 15 are bifurcated so that the brace 15 will straddle the web braces 14 of the standard, as shown in Fig. 4c. It will be seen that the braces 15 are substantially 95 twice as wide as the braces 8. The braces l5 are secured to the bolster 5 by bolts 9 and nuts 10, and also by the vertical bolts 11 and nuts 13. The braces 15 have also the slots 12, so that the braces l5 can be 100 moved closer to or farther from the body 1, of the standard, for the purpose 0f adaptation to the holsters of different widths. The braces 15 are extended inwardly at the bottom parts, for the purpose of making the braces more potent, and also for putting the horizontal bolts 9 out of the path of the vertical bolts 11.
The variations shown in Figs. 5, 6 and 7 include merely Vertical flanges or lugs 16, 110 in addition to the features of the corresponding braces in Figs. 3 and 4, the braces Abraces integral with said body and base,

A wagon .standard comprising a body and a base therefor integral therewith mounted on a bolster, front and rear braces 1, integral with said body and said base, braces having horizontal portions engaging said base and vertical portions engaging' said bolster, vertical bolts binding said braces Vand base and bolster together, said braces 1;;.1- having slots for said bolts permitting adjustment `to holsters of dierent thicknesses, the lower ends of said braces being extended inwardly, and a horizontal bolt lying out of the path of said vertical bolts for binding said braces to said bolster.
3. A standard comprising an upright body having a flat base mounted on a bolster and front and rear braces integral with said body and base, braces having vertical portionsfengaging the sides of a bolster and horizontal portions engaging said base, said horizontal portions being bifurcated to engage said base on both sides of each of said first named braces and having slots therein, vertical'bolts projected through the bolster yand said base and through said slots and nuts therefor, and a horizontal bolt binding the vertical portions of said braces to the bolster.
4. A standard for holsters comprising an upright body and a flat base integral therewith and vertical front and rear braces integral with said body and base, detachable braces having vertical portions engaging the sides of a bolster and having bifurcated horizontal portions engaging said base on yboth sides of said front and rear braces and having upstanding flanges engaging said front and rear braces and said ianges having horizontal slots therein, bolts projected through said slots andthrough said front and rear braces, the horizontal portions `of said detachable braces having slots therein, bolts projected through the bolster and through said base and through said slots and nuts for said bolts, and a bolt binding the vertical portions of said detachable braces to said bolster.
