CURTAIN AND SHADE-ROLLER SUPPORT.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. BAER, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo,in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Shade-Roller Supports, of which the following is a speciication.
The invention 4is designed for the particular purpose of providing a vcombination curtain andshade roller support thatmay be attached to window frames by a very simple clamping operation, so that no screws will be required which would mar or damage the window frame.
A further purpose of the invention 1s to provide a device of this kind in which .the shade roller support is adjustable and likewise the curtain support, so that the device may be used on dilferent widths of Window frames.
, A still further purpose is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, durable and effective 1n operation, and inexpensive to manufacture.
Still further and other purposes will appear as the invention is set forth in detail in the following description.
To the exact construction in which it is shown and described, the invention is not to be restricted. The right is reserved to make such changes or alterations as the actual reduction 4to practice may demand, in so far as such changes or alterations may be comprehended in spirit by the annexed claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of an assembled pair of the improved brackets, a portion of the curtain support being shown in section,
Fig. 2 is a rear elevational view of one of the brackets,
Fig. 3 is a section'on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown a plate for the body portion 1, the portion 2 of this plate being turned at right angles to the body portion and formed to provide a shade roller `support, the portion 2 on one of the brackets being for the round stud of a shade roller and the corresponding portion on the mating bracket being for the Hat stud of the shade roller. Coperating with the plate comprising the sections 1 and 2 there is a second plate having the Specification of Letters Patent.

body section 3, at one end of which the section 4 is bent to form a sli ht acute angle, this section 4 forming the ody section 3 an angle slightly less thana right At the end of the section 4 an inturned wedge shaped rojection 5 is formed.
This for a purpose ater to be described.l
These two plates provide two coperating members, the one having formed in its body section 3 a longitudinal slot 6; the other having formed inits body section 1 suit- Patented J an. 28,1919.

able tapped holes, in one of which there ish i engage the screw 7 which slidably .passes through the slot 6 and whose head overhangs the body section 3. In the .other of these tapped holes there is threadingly engaged a relatively long screw 8 provided with a butterfly head 9 to permit its easily being turned by hand. This screw 8 at the end remote from the head pivotally engages a plate- 10 at the .center of the latter, this plate being preferably rectangular in shape and being recessed or depressed on that face opposite that with which the screw connects, to leave a marginaliiange 11. ,In this depression and surrounded by the marginal iange, there is a rubber mat 12 of a thickness lightly exceeding the depth of the depression, so that the mat may protrude from one face of Ithe plate.
The slot 6 is of a length greater than the distance between'the screws 7 and 8 and the head of the screw 7 does not bind on the top section 3 but lies close enough to the latter to permit free -longitudinal movement between the sections 3 and 1, except when the lock nut 13 carried by the screw 8 bears downAupon the section 3, at which time the screw 8 by means of its threaded engagement with the section 1 and the lock nut 13 serves to secure the two sections against relative movement.
The late having the body section 3 has attached to the said body section close to the line of juncture of the section 4 with the said section a tubular member 14 which is formed with a base plate 15, the latter being riveted to the section 3, so that the tubular member 14 stands at right angles thereto. At the end remote from the b ase plate 15, the tubular member 14 is formed with a right angular extension 16 and at a specified distance behind the said right angular extension is formed with a lateral extension 17, the latter being parallel to the exten- Tubular members 18 telescopically driven behind the inside architraves of the window frame or into the same. The telescoping feature of the tubular members 18 will permit the attachment in this manner tions 1 and 2 will be held securely in place.
and to different widths of window frames. The lock nuts 13 of the two brackets are of course loosened at the time of the attachment of the brackets, and these nuts being loosened, the plates comprising Vthe sections 1 and 2 may be adjusted relative to-the plates 3 and 4 so that the shade roller supports 2 may be spaced the proper distance apart to receive the desired length of shade roller. The turning of the screws 8 in the proper direction then moves the plate 10 toward the front lfaces of the inside architraves when the rubber mats 12 are brought into frictional engagement with the latter. The screws 8 may be turned however, after such frictional engagement t0 effect a tight clamping, after which the nuts 13 may be screwed down when the plates comprising the sec- It is obvious that the present construction may be modified so that the brackets may be attached to the window frame by engagingl the top architraves in the same manner that the present showingillustrates them as being attached to the side arehitrav'es. It is also obvious that thecurtain support may oomprise only one instead of two of the tubular members 18. It is also obvious that a conventional form of curtain pole support may be attached to each bracket instead of the tubular members 14 as shown.
Fromthe foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation. of the invention is apparent, and further description is therefore unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. A device of the kind set-forth compris- 4 ing a pair'of L-shaped plates, the one having a longitudinal slot formed in its longer leg and a wedge shaped projection formed at the extremity of its shorter leg the other having its shorter leg formed to provide a shade` roller support, a fixed screw mounted in the longer leg of the said other plate and slidably entering the said slot and having its head overhanging the longer leg of the first said plate, a hand screw passing loosely through the said Slot and threadingly engaging the longer leg of the said second plate, a plate pivotally engaging the end of said hand screw, and a nut threadingly engaging the hand screw so that the said nut may be screwed down against the longer leg of the first said plate.
2. A device of the kind set forth comprising a pair of L-shaped plates, the one having a longitudinal slot formed in its longer leg and a wedge shaped projection formed at the extremity of its shorter leg, the other having it-s shorter leg formed to provide a shade roller support, a fixed screw mounted in the longer leg of the said other plate and slidably entering the said slot and having itshead overhanging. the longer leg of the first said plate, a hand screw passing loosely through the said slot and threadingly en-y gaging the longer leg of the said second plate, the said plate being depressed on the face opposite that to which the screw is con- A nected to provide a marginal flange there-- around, a rubber pad set in and cemented in said depression so that it may project slightly beyond the said marginal flange, and a nut threadingly engaging said screw.
3. A deviceof the kind set forth comprising a pair of L-shaped plates, the one having a longitudinal slot formed in its longer leg and a wedge shaped Vprojection formed at they extremity of its shorter leg, the other having its shorter leg formed to provide a shade roller support, a fixed screw mounted in the longer leg of the said other plate and slidably entering the said slot and having its head overhanging the longer leg of the first said plate, a hand screw passingloosely through the said slot and threadingly engaging the longer legv of the said second plate, the said plate ,being depressed on the face opposite that to which the screw is 'connected to provide a marginal flange there-v JOHN Gr. BAER.
