To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH R. Simon- LAND, citizenof the United States, residing at New ()rleans, in the parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana,l1ave invented certain useful Improvements in Broom and Mop Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

The invention relates to a holder, and more particular to the class of broom and mop holders.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the handle of a broom, mop or the like, can be conveniently placed therein for the hanging of the same therefrom when said holder is fastened to a wall or other support, so that the mop or broom when not in use will be readily accessible for use, when the occasion requires.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character wherein the handle or stick of the broom, mop or the like is readily inserted in or removed from said holder, which is designed to be fastened to a wall, or other support in any suitable manner, and will properly grip the handle or stick of said ar ticle for the suspension thereof out of the way.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder of this character which is extremely simple in construction, novel in form, thoroughly reliable and eificient in its purpose, strong, durable, and inexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention, mounted upon a wall, and showing a broom suspended therefrom.

Fig. 2 is a'perspective view of the holder removed from the wall with the clamp opened, and the broom detached from the same.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the holder comprises a substantially U-shaped ma or portion, forming a frame 10, bent from a single length of relatively stiff wire, the limbs of the said portion 10 being bent at right angles thereto, to form brackets 11, which include the rearwardly inclined braces 12, being continuations of the limbs of the said frame and the terminals of these braces are coiled at 13 about the limbs of the portion 10, as shown.

The closed end of the frame 11 medially thereof, is bent outwardly, in substantially arcuate form to provide a clamping jaw or yoke 14, while bent from the limbs of the frame, spaced from the closed end thereof, are pintle eyes 15, in which are journaled the pintle ends 16, of a springingclamping frame or yoke 17 having an inwardly arouately bent portion providing a clamping jaw 18, which cooperates with the jaw or yoke 14, for the gripping of the handle A of a broom B, which is merely illustrated to show the manner of clamping the same within the holder, it being understood of course, that a mop or the like can be hung in the holder.

Coiled about one of the pintle ends 16 of the yoke or frame 17, is a tension spring 19, one end of which is fastened to one limb of the major portion on frame 10, while the other end is connected to the clamping yoke or frame 17, and this spring is designed to normally hold the said yoke or frame 17 in clamping relation to the frame 10, Whereby the jaws 14 and 18 will coiiperate with each other for the secure gripping of the handle of a broom, mop, or the like, when inserted within the holder, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.

The outer terminals of the pintle ends 16 are out-turned to form hand grips 20, so that the clamping yoke or frame 17 can be raised against the resistance of the spring 19 for releasing the handle of the broom, mop, or the like from the holder, as will be obvious.

From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the holder will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.

What is claimed is:

A device as described, consisting of a wire frame formed so as to provide a pair of side arms, each arm at one end being bent downwardly andthen backwardly in a vertical plane so as to provide a triangular bracket, the upwardly bent portion terminating in an eye engaging the side arm upon which it is formed, said side arms having a loop portion extending between the side arms, said loop portion having an outwardly extending U-shaped portion, a second wire frame also having side arms and a loop portion connecting said arms and being U-shaped and extending reversely and inwardly between its side arms,the terminals of said side arms of the second wire frame being cranks, the side arms of the first-wire frame being provided with eyes within which said cranks turn, the extreme outer ends being out-turned to hold said cranks against displacement and to form handles for turning the second frame, and a spring device engaging the side arms of both frames and adapted to close the second frame upon the first frame.
