ATTACHMENT FOR BATH-TUBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. *7, 1919.
Application filed March 18, 1918. Serial No. 223,186.
following is a specification.
This invention relates. to an attachment.
for bath tubs whereby water can be discharged into a tub with practically no noise. A further object is to provide a device of this character which can also be used as a stopper for the outlet in the. tub, it being possible, while the stopper is in position, to direct a sheet of water therefrom and over the bottom of the tub so that the said device will soon be entirely submerged and the fillin of the tub willproceed with no noise.
ith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that various changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as set forth in the ap ended claims.
n the accompanying drawings the preferred form of t e invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a bath tub having the present improvements therein.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view.
- Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3, Fig. 2, the device being shown in the outlet of the tub.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a substantially ellipsoidal hollow body provided, in its periphcry, with an outlet slot 2 of any length desired and which, in the present instance, is extended through approximately ninety degrees. The top 'of the body 1 is extended outwardly beyond the slot in the form of a lip 3 which constitutes a deflector. A tubularnipple 4 opens into the bod preferably at the center of the top thereo and secured to the center of the bottom of the body 1 in any desired manner is a plug or stopper 5 of rubber or the like. A tube 6, which can be flexible as shown, connects the nipple 4. to the faucet F in the tub B and when it is desired to use the device, the plug or stopper 5 is placed in the outlet 0 so as to close it. The water is then turned on at the faucet and will.be discharged in a fan shaped sheet through the slot 2, the lip 3 serving to deflect the sheet of water onto the bottom of the tub over which it will flow in a thin sheet. action will be practically noiseless and when the body 1 becomes completely submerged, which will happen in a few moments after the water is turned on, the operation will be entirel noiseless. By pullin upwardly on the tn 6 the stopper can e removed from the outlet 0 thus to permit the contents of the tub to escape.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the class described including a hollow body adapted to be supported by the bottom of a bath tub and having a peripheral outlet slit, and a tube for conducting water to said body from a faucet.
2. A device of the character described including a combined discharge nozzle and outlet stopper, and means for directing water thereto from a faucet.
3. A device of the character described including a hollow body having a water inlet and a peripheral outlet, said body constituting a, stopper for the outlet of a bath tub, and means for conducting water to the inletof the body from a faucet.
4. A device of the character described including a hollow body having a water inlet and a peripheral outlet, a deflecting lip overhanging the outlet, a plug projecting from the bottom of the body. and means for conducting water to the inlet from a faucet.
In testimony that I claim the fore oing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JESSE G. GREENBERG.
Witnesses:
GEO. W. SPRINGER, JOHN T. BARNES.
