FREDERICK SAUNDERS RUSSELL, OF GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.
CIGARETTE AND CIGAR CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. '7, 1919.
Application filed September 30, 1918. Serial N 0. 256,273. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK SAUNDERS RUSSELL, of 1 Argyll Arcade, in the county of the city of Glasgow, Scotland, jeweler and manufacturing goldsmith, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Cigarette and Cigar Cases, of which the following is a specifica tion.
My invention relates to improvements in and connected with cigarette and cigar cases and consists in simplifying the means of facilitating the removal of the cigarettes or cigars from the case.
According to my invention, I provide a lever of crank formation bent to the contour of the case which is pivoted transversely within the interior of the case. Each division is mounted with this device, the two devices being arranged at opposite ends of the case, one end of each lever being furnished with a knob by which the lever is operated. The cigarettes or cigars lie upon the surface of the lever.
In order that my invention may be properly understood and readily carried into effect, I have hereunto appended one sheet of drawings, of which Figure 1 is plan of the case made in accprdance with and embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the lines a. b. Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the case, illustrating the lever turned by the thumb and finger, shown in dotted lines, by means of the knob, in order to raise the cigarettes to a position to aid removal.
Fig. 4 is a view of the lever detached from the case, all hereafter more fully referred to and described.
Referring to the drawings, A is the case.
B is the transverse elastic webs commonly used to keep the contents in position by tension. J are the cigarettes retained normally by the said webs. D. E. are the two levers of crank formation designed to lie almost flush with the floor of the case; one for each division and placed not to coincide with each other, and the same remarks apply to the elastic webs B. Pivots F which have knobs or milled heads G at their outer ends pass through the walls of the case A where they are fixed to the levers D and E respectively. The opposite bent end of said levers is provided with an eye or hole H through which passes the pivot or fulcrum I suitably fixed to the inner walls of case A.
l Vhen it is desired to extract a cigarette or cigar from the case the knob is partially turned and in so doing the lever on which the cigarettes or cigars J are resting is raised as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3. After the extraction, the knob is again turned in the opposite direction, thereby returning the remainder of the contents to their normal position.
Claim:
In cigarette and cigar cases, a lever of crank formation mounted transversely in each division of the case and having a knob or milled head connected to one end of each thereof and capable of being turned so as to raise one end of the cigarettes or cigars to facilitate their extraction, substantially as hereinbefore described and illustrated on the accompanying sheet of drawings.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK SAUNDERS RUSSELL.
Witnesses:
OLIN LIDDLE, JOHN TRAIN LIDDLE.
