Description

C. R. NORMANDY. SPREADER AND HANGER run RECEPTACLES.
APPLICATION HLED DEC- 7. I916.
1,290,299, Patented 11111.7, 1919;
cab
'then bent downwardly as at 23 and within theU shaped bends 7 whereby the two frames 4 and 5 are loosely hinged together at their outer ends, so that they may e collapsed as shown in Fig. 2.
The upper frame 4 is provided with a strut 9 rigidly connected thereto by'eye 10 whereby the arms of the upper frame are spaced open and held in that posit1on. This strut is provided with bends COIlStItI ItIHg eyes 11 and 12, the eye 11 being positioned mid-way between the arms of the frame 4 and eye 12 being positioned near the rear arm of the frame 4. These eyes 11 and 12-are adapted to receive eye bolts 13 and 14 to which a suitable hanger 15 is pivoted, whereby the spreader, w1th its receptacle may be suspended from a vertical support, such as a wall, or an overhead support, such as a shelf. The construction of the hanger 14 shown and its associated parts, are not claimed in this application as they constitute the basis for an application for patent filed in my name, Dec. 7, 1916, Serial No. 135,671.
The side arms of the upper frame 4 are rebent at the center to form depending eyes' 16 and 17 from which a strut distending memberis pivotally hung. This distending member or strut is' of substantially U shape and comprises upright tension arms 18 terminating at their upper ends in eyes 19 which engage the eyes 16 and 17 of the upper frame 4. The strut or transverse rod 20 is integrally formed with and connects the lower ends of the tension arms 18. This strut is formed with undulations, the bottoms of which constitute points of support for coat hangers, whereby the coat hangers are maintained in spaced relation upon said rod 20 within the receptacle.
The lower frame is rebent at its middle portion, as at 21, the rebend 22 extending in the horizontal plane of the frame. It is then forwardly as at 24 to constitute an open eye or hook 25 adapted to detachably receive the outer end portions of the rod or strut 20, as shown in Fig. 4, said rod and tension arms 18, being in the position shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 4, whereby the upper and lower frame are maintained in extended relative position to form a truss like spreader.
en the bag or receptacle is delivered to a customer the spreader is in the collapsed position shown in Fig. 2. When the bag is suspended from a suitablesupport by the anger hook 15, the rod 20, with its tension arms 18, is pulled down and swung into engagement with the eyes 25 of the lower frame as shown in Fig. 1, bringing the strut 20 into proper position to receive coat hangers within the walls of the receptacle.
. nected to and When the receptacle, provided with my improved spreader, is in stock, or is packed for shipment, the hanger is in the collapsed position shown in Fig. 2, the body of the receptacle or bag being wrapped upon the spreader, so that the completed package occupies a minimum space thereby greatly facilitating the handling and packing of the goods in stock and for shipment.-
While I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention in detail it is obvious that changes may be made therein without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A spreader and hanger for a receptacle comprising an upper and lower frame pivoted together at their ends, a cross bar pivotally connected to one of said frames and adapted to have detachable operative connection with the other of said frames to hold the two frames in extended position whereby a truss like hanger is formed.
2. A spreader and hanger for a receptacle comprising an upper and lower frame pivoted together at their ends, a hanger bar extending across the upper frame and connected at its ends to said frame, a cross bar pivotally connected to one of said frames and adapted to have detachable operative eonnection with the other of said frames to hold the two frames in extended position whereby a truss like hanger is formed.
3. A spreader and hanger for a receptacle comprising an upper and a lower frame pivoted together at their ends, a hanger bar extending across the upper frame and connected at its ends to said frame, eyes in the side members of the upper frame, a cross bar pivotallv connected to said eyes and 106 adapted to have detachable operative connection with the other of said frames to hold the two frames in extended position whereby a truss like hanger is formed.
4. A spreader and hanger for a clothes re- 110 ceptacle comprising an upper and lower frame pivoted. together at their ends, a substantially U shape bar pivotally secured to the upper frame and depending therefrom and having interlocking engagement with the lower frame, whereby said frames are held in extended position.
5. A spreader for a clothes receptacle comprising an upper and lower frame pivoted together at their ends. arms pivotally secured to and depending from the upper frame and a detachable interlocking connection between the lower ends of said arms and the lower frame, whereby said frames are held in extended position.
6. A spreader for a clothes receptacle comprising an upper and lower frame pivoted together at their ends, arms pivotally condepending from the upper frame, and a detachable interlocking connection between the lower ends of said arms and the lower frame'whereby the frames are held in extended p ition, and a bar connecting the lower ends of said arms and extending'transversely of said spreader.
7. A spreader for a clothes receptacle comprising an upper frame made from a single piece of wire, the front and rear arms of said frame being rebent at their center to form an eye in each, a lower frame constructed from a single piece of wire, the front and rear arms of which are bent at their center to form an open hook, arms pivotally mounted in the eyes of the upper frame and depending therefrom, across bar connecting the lower ends of said arms, said cross bar being adapted to enter theopen hooks of the lower frame whereby the frames are held in extended position, said upper and lower frame's being pivotally secured together at their ends. a I
8. A spreader for a clothes receptacle comprising an upper frame made from a single piece'of wire, the front and rear arms of said frame being rebent at their center to form an eye in each, a lower frame con structed from a sinle iece of wire, the front and rear arms of w icii are bent at their center to form an open hookyarms pivotally mounted in the eyes of the upper frame and depending therefrom, a cross bar connecting the lower ends of said arms, said cross bar being-adapted to enter the open hooks of the lower frame whereby the frames are held in extended position, and the strut extending transversely of and secured to the upper frame, an eye formed in said strut within the rear of the frame and an eye formed inwsaid strut substantially at the center of said frame, said upper and lower frames being pivotally secured together at their ends.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature.
