NATHANIEL H. FURNESS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,022, dated July 16, 1872 antedated June 29, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Attaching Buckles to Straps, invented by N ATHANIEL H. FURNEss, of New York city, in the county and State of New York.
The gure represents a short strap with a buckle attached to each end. t
My invention has for its especial object to furnish a short strap with a buckle attached to each end for attachment to vests, pantaloons, Ste., so that the buckle can be conveniently detached when the garment is sent to be washed, and which may also be used with advantage for various other purposes; and it consists in the combination of two hooks with an ordinary buckle, and in the strap having a buckle attached to each end, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents the body of the buckle, and B is the loop, the ends of which are so bent as to form the tongues and adapt it to be pivoted to the eyes of the body A. C are small hooks that are pivoted to the parts of the loop B, that pass through the eyes of the body A upon either side of said eyes, the said parts being elongated a little, when necessary, to \adapt them to receive the said hooks G. The hooks C are designed to be passed through the doubled end of the strap D, and around the loop B, after the end of the said strap has been passed through the loop B. The ends of the hooks C may then be closed down upon the said strap D. The short strap D may be a piece of elastic webbing, a strip of cloth or other suitable material.
This construction allows the buckles to be conveniently detached from the garment when it is to be sent to be washed, to attach them to another garment, or for any other convenient purpose.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I Y The hooks C, in combination with an ordinary buckle,l A B, for securing the said buckle to its strap, substantially as herein shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 8th day of November, 1871.
NATHANIEL H. FURNESS.
