Description

F. A. FULLER.
LIP STICK HOLDER;
APPLICATION FILED MAY 28. I918.
Patentd Jan. 7,1919.
EEAEz A. EULL E, 0E NEWARK,
NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO J. E. MERGOTTCOMPANY,
Lrr-s'rrox HoLnEE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ A. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Newark, county of Essex, and State of NewJersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lip -Stick Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, forming a part of thisspecification.
.This invention has reference to improvements in holders for lip-sticks of rouge, primary object of my invention being to simplify the structure so as to render the same positive yet'efl'ective in operation, simple and inexpensive in construction, and durable in use.
A further object of my invention is to produce the various parts comprising vice, from ordinary sheet metalby the use of suitable punches and dies, thereby reducing the cost of manufacture to a mini- 5' ings. I
With these ends in view, my invention iOllSlStS of certain novelties of construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims. lVhile the preferred form of my invention is-illustrated in the accompanying drawings, yet it is to be understood that minor changes ,may be made without. departing from the scope thereof.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 represents'a side elevation of the lip-stick holder with the'cap applied. I
Fig. 2 represents a similar view illustrating the holder with the cap removed.
Fig. 3 represents a side elevation of the holder with the follower and rouge stick secured therein.
Fig. 4: represents an end view ofthe same.
Fig. 5 represents a transverse section taken on lines m--m of Fig. 2, and
Figs. 6, 7, and, 8 represent, respectively front, rear and lower. M Y

section, closed at one end and open at the of such shape as to other. The parts are lend themselves readily to manufacture by the useof suitable punches and dies, from ordinary sheet metal, and which parts are reduced tothe simplest operative efficiency. The holder is so constructed from a single piece of fiat metal, as to provide a longitudinal slot 5 extending throughout the greater portion of its length, and along one side, terminating at its ends short of the ends of the holder. :In close proximity to the open end of the holder 1, are formed in any desired or convenient manner, preferaby by being struck out from the metal of said holder, a plurality of inwardly extending prongs or lugs .9 designed to be engaged by the follower 2, after said follower has been slidably arranged within the holder'l. The object being to limit the outward movement of the follower 2 in the holder 1.
- The holder being formed. from a single piece of suitable material adjacent to 1ts open end thereof, where the edges of the material come together or abut is slightly cut away to provide, preferably a V -shaped not-ch 4 for the reception of the tongue formed on the follower 2, to be presently described. The cap 3 is alsomadefrom a suitable piece of sheet metal, and proportioned t0 fit snugly over the holder 1, and in its preferred form is provided, adjacent to either end, with sake of ornamentation. 'Its open end is also provided with diametrically oppositely arranged notches 14, adapted-to aline with the slot 5 of the holder. The follower 2 is also made from a single piece of suitable material, so formed as to provide adjacent to the open end thereof, a tongue 6. The tongue is formed in the follower in such a manner,
outset annular beads for the.
that when the follower islocated within the projected beyond the open end of the holder, asdesired, throughout the movement of the 6 forms an lntegral from which the follower 2 is made, and is of a sufficient length follower. This tongue to be folded upon itself to form a convenlent finger piece 8 by means of which the follower with its attached rouge stick can be manipulated.
In assembling the device the follower is slipped into the open end of the holder, with its closed end innermost, and with its tongue in alinement with the V-shaped notch 4: in the end of the holder, so that when pressure is exerted the tongue will enter the notch, thereby causing the meeting edges of the holder, located between the bottom of the notch and the bottom of the slot, to spread sufliciently to permit the tongue to snap into, and have sliding engagement with the slot in the holder. The object of providin the open end ofthe cap with the two a ined notches 1.4is to provide means whereby the tongue 6 of the follower will always engage 'with one of said notches, irrespective of the manner in which the holder is inserted in the cap,
Experience has .demonstrated that the organization above described is a highly efficient one, and while I have shown the preferred embodiment of my present invention,
I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of-construction shown and described, as obvious modifications thereof, not involving the exercise of invention, may be made by any skilled mechanic,-and such departures from what is herein set forth, -I consider within the scope and terms of my claims.
I claim 1. A lip stick holder comprising a tubular holder, closed at one end, said holder being formed from a fiat piece of material with a longitudinal slot terminating short of its ends and provided with a notch adjacent its open end, a follower formed from a flat piece of material slidably arranged withinthe holder, to receive a stick of rouge, a
tongue formed on the follower and project-.
ing through the slot of the holder, the tongue being bent to. provide a finger piece projecting beyond the holder and by means of Which the stick may be reciprocated within the holder, and a ca having sliding engagementwith the hol er formed from a flat piece of material with one end open to receive the holder, and the other end closed, said open end being provided with alined notches for the reception of the tongue of the follower.
2. A lip stick holder comprising a tubular holder formed from flat piece of material having a, longitudinal slot formed by the edges of said materiah'terminating short of its ends, and further provided with a notch adjacent its open end, integral stops projecting inwardly and located adjacent said open end, a followerformed from a flat piece of material slidably arranged within said holder adapted to receive a stick of rouge, the movement in one direction of said follower being limited by the said integral stops, said follower being provided with instruck integral rouge holding means, a tongue formed on the follower and projectingthrough the slot ,of the holder, the tongue being bent to provide a finger piece projecting beyond the holder and by means of which the stick may be 'reciprocated within the holder, and a ca having sliding engagement with the ho der formed from a flat piece of material with one end open to receive the holder, and the other end closed, said open end being provided with alined notches for the reception of the tongue, of the follower.
This specification signed and witnessed this 22nd day of May,- 1918.
