To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, JAMES B. BLAOKSHEAR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii, have invented a new and Improved Toy Cannon, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention although adapted for different projectiles, as will appear, is, more particularly intended for the firing of a sectional projectile adapted to bedisrupted in striking an object, such a projectile forming the subject-matter of a separate application of even date herewith, Serial No. 217,598.
An object of the invention is to provide a toy cannon improved in various particulars with respect to the breech and the elements associated therewith to insure the proper insertion of the projectile with facility and also with respect to the firing means, trigger, and the controlling means therefor.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of theinvention. 7

Incarrying out my invention, the structure i cludes a suitable frame or supporting body 10 mounted on a wheeled axle 11, the numeral 13 indicating a wheel and thev numeral 12, depending brackets on the body 10 integral therewith, through which brackets the axle 11 extends.
Fig. 2 is a view similarto Fig. 1 but show- The barrel 1 1 of the cannon has, an arched breech 15, the rear end of which is open for the entrance of a projectile A, the particular form of the projectile illustrated not constituting a part of the present invention but being the subject matter of the concurrent application above mentioned. The height of the arched breech 15' is preferably slightly less than the diameter of the projectile A to require that the projectile be forced into said breech. The material of the arched breech 15 is slightly yielding so that in forcing the projectile against the top of the arch the sides of the arch will be slightly sprung inwardly and the arch will tend-to restore itself after the projectile has entered, thereby tending to throw the projectile downwardly in front of the ejector hereinafter described.
, On the barrel atthe rear end aretaining spring 16 may be employed, projecting into the housing 16 and being adapted to yield downwardly to permit the projectile to pass beyond the spring and be engaged by its end. Said spring is' secured in any suitable manner as by a rivet 17. In the rear'of the breech and in line with the barrel is a'frame 18 of any suitable form, closed at its rear end 19 andformed with, or secured at its front end to, the rear end 23 of the barrel or breech chamber. Operating in the barrel at the breech is an ejector including a head or plunger 20 and a reciprocating plunger rod 22, which extends through the end 23 and througha transverse partition 24 of the frame 18. A coil spring 21 surrounds the rod .22 between the head 20 and the end closure 23. A trigger 25'is arranged slidguided reciprocating movement. The'forward hooked end of the trigger presents a catch 27 adaptedto engagea flange or collar 22 on the rod '22, which collar infthe illustrated form limits the forward movement of thev rod under the action of the spring.21.' I I V The arrangement is such that a rearward pull on the trigger 25, when the latter is enl gaged iwith the collar, 22*, will move 'the plunger rod 22 and the head 20 rearwardly,
thereby compressing the spring 21 and per- 1'nitting;the:proj ectile'A to take its placein front of said plunger as indicated in Fig. 2'. The barrel is slightly inclined to prevent the projectile from accidentally sliding from the barrel.
