To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, SIMON I. GoLDs'rErN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Umbrella-Tags, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to tags, and more particularly to a method of attaching tags to umbrellas.

The object of the invention is to provide simple and eiicient means for attaching tags to umbrella sticks during the process of manufacture.

In order that the invention may be readily understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which,

Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of the upper end of an umbrellaJ stick and handle, showing one of my improved tags in position on the stick; and,

Fig. 2 is a view of the tag itself.

It is proposed to provide a tag which may be attached to the umbrella stick by the manufacturer, such tag bearing on one side the manufacturers name, and on the other side, the name and address of the dealer and a place for the name and address of the purchaser. The idea is that a purchaser upon buying an umbrella, lls in his name and address and the date of purchase, and then retains the tag for identification. Should the umbrella prove unsatisfactory or defective, it is proposed that the purchaser can obtain a new one by presenting the tag to the manufacturer.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1

designates the usual umbrella stick, which is preferably made of metal, and 2 the handle, of any desired design. This handle is, of course, of considerably larger diameter than the stick, and is provided with a socket (not shown) in its end, into which the end of the stick is inserted and cemented.

3 designates the usual slide, and my improved tag is designed to be attached to the stick between this slide and the handle. The

tag is designated by the reference character 4 and as shown in Fig. 2, may conveniently be elongated or pear-shaped in outline. .At one end, they tag is provided with an opening 5, which is slightly larger than the umbrella stick l, so as to be capable of sliding thereover, and, at the same time, is smaller than the diameter of the handle 2. At 6 is indicated the place for the name and address 0f the dealer and purchaser, and the date of purchase. rIhe naine of the manufacturer preferably appears on the reverse side. This tag may be made of tag-board, or sized fabric of any suitable kind.

In practice, the opening 5 of one of these tags is fitted over the upper end of the stick l before the handle is attached, and the handle then secured in position. It will be seen, therefore, that the tag is confined between the slide 3 and the handle 2, and is retained on the stick by the latter.

It will be seen that the above construction affords a cheap and convenient method of securing the tag in position, and, at the same time, permits of its being readily torn oif by the purchaser. The tag may, of course, contain any desired printed matter, and, while adapted to other purposes, is particularly designed for use in connection with the above described guarantee system of a manufacturer.

What I claim is:

A device of the class described comprising a tag having an opening adapted to be threaded upon an umbrella stick before the handle is attached thereto, said opening being smaller than such handle, whereby the tag is adapted to be retained on the stick by the handle.
