J. KINTZ. REVOLVING STAND LAMP.
Patented Aug. 13, 1889.
Wn- JEEEEE UNITED STATES PATENT I OFFICE.
. JOSEPH KINTZ, OF BALLARD VALE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND THE ORAIGHEAD 85 KINTZ COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
REVOLVING-STAND LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 409,154, dated August 13, 1889.
V Application filed January 17, 1889. Serial No. 296,647. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH KINTZ, of Ballard Vale, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, a citizen of the United States,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving-Stand Lamps, of which the following is a specification.
My present improvement relates to a device containing, in combination with the standard of a lamp, a revolving stand or tray set at a convenient height upon the lamp-stand ard and adapted to be revolved thereon at will, and provided with a suitable retaining device to hold the tray from revolving when desired.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows in vertical section a device embodying my present improvements. Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged views of the details of the locking device, as will be as hereinafter explained.
In the drawings I have represented a tablelamp which may be of any desired style of construction, and which is provided with a central standard A. Inclosing this standard,
at a suitable height thereon, I provide a sleeve B, to which the arms I) or supports for the re volving stand are attached. This sleeve is adapted to rotate around the standard A upon a supporting-disk O, and is provided at its lower extremity with a series of holes I), one of which is shown in section in Fig. 2, and the series of which appear at Fig. 3, which is a view of the bottom of the sleeve B. In addition to these holes in the sleeve there is also a perforation c in the disk 0. Through this perforation a locking-pin D passes, so as to project into one of the holes I) in the sleeve 13. This pin is mounted upon a verticallymovable shell E, which also surrounds the standard A, and within which is a coiled spring E, bearing at its lower part upon the standard at or near its base; This coiled spring normally operates to throw and hold the shell E up and the pin D in lockin g engagement with the sleeve B.
If, now, it is desired to rotate the stand, the shell E is drawn down, preferably by means of a suitable finger-piece G, attached to its I lower end, as shown, until the pin D is drawn out of the hole in the base of the sleeve B. This allows the sleeve and consequently the stand to be rotated at pleasure relatively to the lamp-standard. Then it is desired to lock the stand against rotation, the shell E, being left free to rise, carries the pin D upward and again into engagement with one of the holes Z), thus locking the stand against rotary mot-ion.
The device above described is particularly adapted for use as a banquet-lamp, and in its preferred form will be provided with a revolving stand, consisting of a series of trays suitably mounted upon the sleeve, as described, each tray being intended to contain a different article of food-for example, sweetmeats, &c. 6 5
I claim 1. The'improved revolving-stand lamp herein described, consisting of a lamp provided with a suitable standard A, a sleeve B, carrying a stand and provided at its base with a series of holes, as described, and a spring-supported shell carrying a pin adapted to enter one of the holes to lock the sleeve against rotation, the said shell being adapted, by drawing it down against the pressure of the spring, to withdraw the pin and permit the revolution of the sleeve 13 around the standard when desired, all substantially as set forth.
In combination, the standard A, the revoluble sleeve B, carrying the stand and provided at its base with the series of holes I), the perforated supporting-disk O, and the shell E, carrying the pin D and provided with a finger-piece G, for depressing the shell, and the coiled spring F, for elevating it, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 9th day of January, A.
JOSEPH KINTZ.
