PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK H. RICHARDSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN GAME-COUNTERS.
Specification describing Letters Patent No. 128,910, dated July 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK H. RICHARDSON, or Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Counters for Gard- Players; and Ihereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in devices for counting points and registering games at cards; and it has for its object the production of a simple, durable, ornamental, and easily-manipulated device, which shall not only indicate the number of points made by a player but the number of games he has won. My invention consists in the combination of a dial and index with apolygona-l block having two or more of its sides provided with dots, figures, letters, or symbols indicating a regular or appropriate increase in numbers, whereby the player may, by simply turning the block from side to side, keep the number of points, and, when he has made the requisite number, register a game by the dial and index.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention particularly designed for a euchre-counter. Fig. 2isa similar view of the same particularly designed for a whist-counter. Figures 3 and 4 are additional views illustrating slight modifications of the preceding figures.
The block A may be made of any suitable material, and may have any number of plain surfaces, the number being, preferably, adapted to the game in playing which the counter is designed for use, and a proper number of these sides are provided with dots, figures, letters, or symbols to indicate such regular increase in numbers as is employed in registering the points made. In Fig. 1 a cube is shown, designed for a euchre-counter. On one side is one dot on the next, two; on the next, three; on the next, four; and on the next is the dial and index, the sixth side being, in this case, not required. Now, in counting, we turn the cube over as we progress, and count up to four. The next point will be game, and we indicate one game on the dial. In Fig. 2 the counter is designed for whist, and we proceed as before, counting nine points with the eight sides and end, and ten being game we register a game on the dial. In Fig. 3 the sides of the block carry figures instead of dots. In Fig. 4 the index is stationary, and the dial re volves instead of the reverse, as in Figs. 1 and 2.
It is obvious that the block may be made of various materials and highly ornamental, and if the dial be sunk below the surface of the side it will, at all times, be protected.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A game counter, consisting of the combination of a dial and index with a polygonal block, having two or more of its sides provided with dots, figures, letters, or symbols, whereby the points made in the game may be readily kept by turning the block, and the games registered by the dial and index, substantially as herein specified.
