JAMES FRANCIS OROURKE, OF TUCUMCARI, NEW MEXICO.
CEMENT RAIL FOR HIGHWAYS AND ROADS.
Application filed June 12, 1918.
Z '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES FRANCIS OROURKE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tucumcari, in the county of Quay and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cement Rails for Highways and Roads, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to roads and highways for vehicular trailic, and particularly to certain safety road making means in the form of spaced parallel rails formed of plastic material which may be molded in situ, if desired, or laid in sections.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating my present invention,
Figure 1' is a perspective view illustrating the roadway formed in accordance with my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse taken therethrough.
Referring now to these figures, my inven tion contemplates the formation of a roadway which includes central and side tracks 10 and 11, each of the side tracks 11 being identical information, and the several tracks extending longitudinally in parallelism in order to form continuous supports for vehicles in passage ,over the highway or road and is properly spaced position for safely passing one another. To this end, the central track 10, is of considerable width and has plane surfaces, its upper surface being flush with the roadway surface 12 as parsection Specification of Letters Patent. Patgntgd Dec, 24, 1918,
Serial No. 239,583.
ticularly seen in Fig. 2, and being curved if desired, to conform to the crown thereof.
The two side tracks 11, identical in construction as before described, are each of trough shape and are each provided with a longitudinal groove or depression 13 to receive vehicle wheels therein, in order to maintain the same in the safely spaced relation as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, when passing one another in either the same or opposite directions, the outer wheels of the vehicles moving in the grooves or depros sions 13 of tne two sides tracks 11 with the inner wheels thereof upon the side portions of the central track 10.
Thus by means of my invention I am enabled to quickly and economically construct vehicle roads and highways, promote safety in travel of vehicles thereover, and provide for economical upkeep.
I claim 1- l. A roadway having spaced parallel side tracks and a central track of which. the central track has a plane surface and the side tracks have longitudinal wheel-receiving depressions for the purpose described.
:2. A roadway having spaced parallel tracks formed of plastic material and including track members at its center and sides, the central track member being of greater width than the side track members and having a plane surface, and the side track members having longitudinal wheelreceiving depressions for the purpose (lescribed.
