IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PLATFORMS.

Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,765, dated July 9, 1872.

- .SPECIFICATION To all whom fit may concern: l

Be it known that we, THos. SMITH and WM. M. KIMBALL, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and Improved Stove- Platform; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and complete description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of the same.

The nature of this invention relates to a rest or platform on which to stand a stove, and the object thereof is to so construct said platform that the top thereof, when worn out or so much worn as to lookbadly, can be removed, and a new one, which may consist of sheet metal or of oil-cloth, be placed there instead, thereby Savin g the expense of an entire new platform or rest.

Of the construction and arrangement of said platform the following is a more full and c`om which is to hold down the top or covering E upon the surface of the core, and which top or covering nlay be of sheet metal, oil-cloth, or of any other suitable material. So, also, the

lower edge of the band is turned inwardly, forming a flange, D', the purpose of which is to hold the core in place. i

The process of constructing theabove-described platform is as follows: A circular core, of wood or other proper material, is rst fpro vided; also a covering or top, of metal or other material, of the same diameter as the core, which is laid thereon. The band, which is formed and' bent in a machine, is then put around the edge of the center or core, the two ends of the band being free, so that the band can be spread out so as to admit of its being put on the center, which, when done, it is drawn tightly around it and the ends lapped one upon the other, as shown in Fig. 1, and thereto secured by a screw, a, driven through the' lapping ends into the wood; or it may be secured by any other appropriate means.

The peculiar advantage of a platform constructed as above described is that it can be easily and cheaply made, and when the top is worn out, or so much so as to look badly, it can be removed and a new one put on in its place by simply drawing the screw a so that the band can be expanded for the removal of the old top and for the introduction of the new one. The band may consist'of several pieces, so also may the center, without changing the nature of our invention.

The herein-described stove-platform, consisting of the wooden center A, detachable band C secured by a screw, a, flanges D D', and removable top E, all constructed substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
