IM PROVEMENT IN FRUIT-BASKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 54,422, dated May 1, A1866 antedatedApril 21, 1866.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that 1,1?. B. SHELDON, of Prattsburg, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Fruit-Basket 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this speciiication.
My invention consists in the method of se curing the lower ends of the slats forming the the line x Fig. 1.
lReferring to the drawings, b b are the side slats of the basket, being secured at .their upper ends, c, between the hoops d andf on their inner and outer sides, respectively, and which form the upper edge or rim'of the basket.
g is the bottom of the basket, being made by choice of wood and having arim, t', which projects upwardly, so as to form a circular vertical wall or surface, against which the lower ends, l, of the slats are secured by pressing in a disk or annular plate, L, which, impinging against the inner sides of the slats, thrusts them outwardly and clamps them against the rim t' of the bottom board. The slats are there otherwise secured, according to their character, quality, or ultimate purpose, by glue, nails, rivets, or in any other suitable manner.
The basket may be made of any suitable material and ofthe required shape-polygonal, square, round, or oval-the characteristic rim and central pressure-piece being preserved.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, as an improved article of manufacture- A fruit-basket made substantially as herein described.
