tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in oil burning lamps, and pertains more particularly to burners therefor.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an oil burner for lamps by means of which the lamp chimney is rigidly carried by the burner to permit of the burner being opened for the purpose of lighting without removing the chimney therefrom.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure l, is a' perspective view of the burner,
Fig. 2, is a view of the burner with its lid and chimney thrown back to permit of lighting the burner,
Fig. 3, is a transverse sectional view, and,
Fig. 4-, is a vertical sectional view.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 10 designates a burner of the type employed in lamps using kerosene for fuel, the reference character 11 designating the burner cap.
Carried by the burner is a sheet metal disk 12 which disk is provided with a central cut out portion through which the burner cap is adapted to pass. After the disk is positioned on the burner cap, the same is secured thereto by means of solder or the like, or the burner cap may be constructed with the disk 12 formed as an integral part thereof.
Secured to the top face of the disk 12 is a screw ring 13, said screw ring being supported by a plurality of equidistantly spaced legs 14, the lower ends of which are rigidly secured to the disk 12 near its periphery.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for The chimney 15 is provided near its base with a plurality of screw threads 16 which are adapted to be received by the screw threads of the screw ring 13, it being understood that the ring is of such height as to permit the lower end of the chimney engaging the disk when the chimney is in place within the screw ring.
When it is desired to light the burner, it is only necessary to-engage the disk at the front side thereof and rock the burner cap on its hinge 20 to the position shown in Fig. 2, the disk 12 being cut away as at 21 to permit of this movement of the burner cap.
By supporting the screw ring by means of spaced legs, it will be seen that the lower end of the chimney is properly ventilated to permit of cooling of the same, and said disk is also provided with a plurality of air openings 22 which allow for the necessary ventilation of the burner.
It is of course understood that these burners may be made in different sizes to permit of the use of different sized shades without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, is:
The combination with a lamp chimney having a screw threaded end, of a lamp burner comprising abase, a screw ring hav- FRANK F. RICHTER.
