UNITED srnrne I v OSCAR LARSEN, or WELLS TOWNSHIP, DELTA COUNTY, MICHIGAN.
U HORSE.
1,286,663. sp fi t n ft r r tent. 'Patented Dec. s, 1918.
Application filed May 4, 1916, Serial No. 95,478. Renewed May 10, 1918. Serial No. 233,800.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .0SCAR LARSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wells township, in the county of Delta and State of Michigan, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Horses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to supports and more particularly to a horse for supporting posts.
As the primary object, this invention contemplates the provision of a novel supporting means for receiving posts of cedar so that the posts may be readily and conveniently peeled.
Another object, of equal importance as first mentioned object, resides in the provision of retaining pins mounted on stationary and adjustable members of the supporting means for preventing the posts,
from being accidentally misplaced while they are being peeled, as well as the stop pin to facilitate the maintenance of the post in position.
It is also contemplated by this invention to provide means for adjusting the supporting means and to provide means for reinforcing the supporting means.
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of parts will be appreciated from the detailed description below, which is to be read in con nection with the accompanying drawings and with the claims forming a part of this.
specification.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, in the direction in which the arrow points.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1 in the direction in which the arrow points.
Referring more particularly to the drawings I have provided a supporting means including a stationary member 1 which is cylindrical in' contour, being supported by legs 2 which are in turn reinforced by sleeves 3. It is desired that the body 1 be. formed of wood and in such cases metallic bands 4 are associated therewith for reinforcing purposes. One end of the body is provided with a recess 5 in which is mounted a metallic sleeve 6.
Removably connected to and extending longitudinally from the sleeve 6 is a bar 7 I provided at uniformly spaced intervals throughout its length with transverse openings 8. A bolt 9 passes through the outer end of the sleeve 6, being also engaged in one of the openings 8 in the bar for removably connecting the bar to the body 1.
Adj ustably associated with the bar 7 is an adjustable member of the supporting means which consists of a bal1-like body 10 formed preferably of wood and reinforced by metallic bands 11 which extend circumferentially about the body as illustrated to advantage in the drawings. Supporting legs 12 are removably connected to the body, the lower ends being reinforced by sleeves 13. The body 10 is also provided with a transverse bore in which is rigidly connected a metallic sleeve 14. The outer ends of this sleeve project beyond the surface of the body 10 and has one of the ends provided with transverse o enings inwhich. is removably engaged a liblt 15. This bolt is also adapted to removably engage one of the openings 8 in the bar 7 for removably and adj ustably maintaining the adjustable memof the post while it is being peeled as is readily apparent to facilitate the maintenance of the post in position.
Although I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire it to be understood that I am not to be limited to the exact construction shown and described. However, I desire that great stress be laid upon the arrangement of the supporting means including the relatively adjusted members as well as the means for holding the members in various adjustable positions. Great stress is also laid upon the means for retaining the posts that are being peeled, on the supporting means.
From the above description taken'in connection with the accompanying drawing, it can easily be seen that I have provided a device that is simple in construction, containing but few simple vpart-s that can be cheaply manufactured and assembled and when as sembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.
It will be understood that scription and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claim and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A device of the character described comprising two members, each of the members the above dc including a body, means for reinforcing both one of the bodies, means .for holding'the other body in various adjustable positions on the bar, and means on the upper surfaces of the bodies for holding a post thereon.
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature. 30
in presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR LABSEN.
