Description

R. A. DOLESx POLE FOR VENTILATNG HAYSTACKS. APPLmAT'loN FILED FEB.14. ma.
Patented Dee. 3, w18.
INVENTOR AM w ATTORNEY nonna. DoLEsoIj iinnrvinnii, KENTUCKY- "ienne-1 To all 'wwmz't mog/'concern "zen of Vthe United States, residing atfEddy'- ing Haystacks,` of which the following is au specification. v
`My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a haystack pole and more particularly to a pole for ventilating hay stacks. v
The principal object o .f my invention is the construction of a pole in such a manner that .the stack will be ventilated throughoutlv its height and breadth.
Another object is the construction of the pole in suoli a manner as to allowfor the settling of the stack. y A further object is the provision-of transverse pipes which are detaehably lconnected to the' central vertical pole. and vertically adjustable thereon.
Still another object is the construction of the condensation from the stack.
Vith these and other objects in-view, my
invention consists'in the novcldetails of construction and the arrangement -of parts which will be inoie fullyunderstood from the following specilicationand drawings'in.
which:
Figure l is a side elevation showing the stack broken away to show the pole.4 l
Fig. 3 -is a fraginental enlargeddetail showing a section-through the central pole and one ofthe traiisii'erseepipes, and
Fig. 4`is a fraginental detailillustrating a slightly modified form of transversepipe. In the drawings the numeral l indicates a hollow pole which tapers from the'bottom ltoward the top and said pole -is provided throughout its length with openings 2 the.
purpose ofwhich will he .presentlydelg Elongated vertically extending?. openings are formed in thepole l, the
scribed.

. filtre-in are adapte @tiene tiiifeugiime [openings `3 as is -more 'particularly illusf-" trated in Fig. 1 ofthe"o lrawings.4 lhesei'v pipes 4 maybe of any desired length and the ends thereof are preferably 'left ope'ii I also provide ventila'ting pipes,- adapted to 'be adjustably -anddetachably connected to tliecentral pole fl'wher'eby as many pipes,.
'as desired, may beused for stacking the' hay to various heightsor Vsuch pipes mayf-i'be arrangedat, various4 intervals apart to` be v determined by the ventilation' desired.v T hese -pipes are indicated 'atv G and'arepi'ovided 'with a plurality of perforations as 1n-` dicated at. 7.' Tliepipes Gare provided on has a right angle extension 9- which extends across and is spaced from t-lie end of the pipe as is more particularly.illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. The right angle ex- 'one end jwitli anextension 8 whichin4 turn d tension is provided with a projection 10 and the end of the pipe is beveled Vas indicated vat 11 for the purpose as 'will be later de- 'I scribed. The right angle extension-'$2 is the pole in such a manner that it will drain of the drawings I have indicated 'aV slightly niodifiedform of pipe' G which is forked on the end to form the spaced arms" 12 adapted toextend on each side' of the pole 1. These arms l2 are of such a. lengt-li as to extend beyond the faceoftlie polel so that when in .position the staeked'hay will rest upon said extended arms and hold the pipe It isa. well ventilate a hay stack and it is for this reason that my 'invention is provided and I lhave .constructed the same in such a manner that itinay` be used for stacking the hay v'to variousp heights and i at the' saine time allow' for theset-tling of 'the stack. The perforated knowiithat itis desirable to .pole '-1 Aventilatesthe :stack throughoutI its height and the perforated pipes 4 and ventilate the stack throughout its width.l u lVhe-n beddedin the groundandthe hay is stacked th'erearouiid.
yevtend beyondthe outer surfaceof theV stackfYhen lthe stack settles the pipes ft At the desired intervalsthe pipes lare inserted, through the openings fin -iisc the lower 'end of the.' pole 1 is em- -i tot 'ivill bel slid vertically 'of they openings 3.
' and :BY-of the draivings-- By providingthe projection 10 on the right angle extension ..9 it is necessary to slightly turn the pipe G Awhen engaging it with the` pole 'l or-detachingit therefrom. The beveled'portion 1l cooperates vvith the projection 10 so that the pole may be passed 'through the openinon The pipes 6- .will slide along the pole l as the stack settles.
, Then the modified form Yol'fpipe 6, illus-v trated -in Fig, -l of the dra \\'ings. is to be used the arms 12 extend on either side of the pole l and, as previously described, arel of such a llength that the hay will rest upon ,the-ends of the arms for holding the pipes messes in proper position and for adjusting them along the pole l as the stack settles.
Having fully described my inventim, what I claim as new and desire to secure tor Letters Patent is perforatedpole haying elongatedy openings there-in, and perforated pipes extending through the elongated openings.
2. A. haystack -ventilator comprising a hollow perforated pole provided with vertically spaced elongated openings, and perforated pipes extendingl through the elongated openings transversely of the pole.
