PATENT OFFICE.
CHlCKEN-ROOST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 727,454, dated May 5, 1903. Application filed February 17 1903. Serial No. 143,770. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EZRA ROYCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Yamhill in the county of Yamhill and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Im provements in Chicken-Boosts, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to chicken roosts or perches; and the object of the same is to construct a perch-bar which will contain a disinfectant or insecticide and leave it free to vaporize to charge-the feathers of the roosting chickens or other fowls to keep them free from vermin.
The simple and novel construction employed by me in carrying out my invention is fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forminga part thereof, in which- Figure l is a perspective of my improved perch. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of one of the perches.
The numeral 1 designates a metal pipe, (an ordinary gas-pipe would serve,) which pipe is closed at both ends by caps 2. A narrow slot 3 traverses the pipe 1 from end to end.
To prevent injuring the chickens feet, a
jacket or covering 4 covers the exterior of the pipe. Thisjacket consists of wood, but may also be made of felt or any other poor heat conductor, and has a slot 5 therein which registers with the slot 3 in the pipe 1.
The perches constructed as above are mounted in a suitable frame, with the slots 3 and 5 uppermost, and are filled wholly or in part with some volatile disinfectant or insecticide. When the fowls are roosting on the perches, the fumes will rise through the slots 3 and 5 and permeate their feathers. Connection may be made between the dilferent perches to enable them to be filled simultaneously. I do not wish to be limited to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters covering thereon, and caps fitted on the ends of said pipe, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EZRA ROYCE.
